Anyone who doesnt think we take a step back in our starting pitchin next yr is fooling themselves lets be real. Thats what carried us thru all of our 1 run games. Nola will not be a Gausman next yr plain and simple

our bullpen was the reason we held so many close leads. And we return just about everyone besides Goody probably.

Lester would be correct, no one is arguing that Gausman is a big loss buddy. All they are saying is that we do have quality arms.

No one in this entire thread is saying Nola will be as good as Gausman. You're argument is going in circles...

Adam, can you talk about what may have changed in recruiting philosophies/tactics/personnel post CWS title that caused us to go from having a guy as talented as Leon Landry not even being a starter to where we are now? It seems odd that Mainieri was capable of getting top notch classes up until he won the title, and now we have 20ish ranked classes with several average players.

Great find Lester, Nola actually performed nearly as equal as Gausman's freshman year stats. I think Nola could be better than Gausman in the long run, we don't have Grewe coaching, and Nola's record could be attained to Bullpen holding one run leads. Let's see what Dunn can do with Nola for his next 2 years at LSU. or is Nola eligible to be drafted next year? (age?) (didn't look up)

Would you agree?

Nola just made 19 last week. I think he'll be here 2 more years.

Also concerning Eades, this was his first full season of starting since his injury. He was off and on, but overall had a solid year. He has the stuff to take the next step.

I dont know what your trying to prove here that Gausmans freshman yr was better?? Thats what it looks like to me genius! His record was worse b/ c of our terrible hitting! Great post Adam??

It seems odd that Mainieri was capable of getting top notch classes up until he won the title, and now we have 20ish ranked classes with several average players.

His first class at LSU he basically struck a gold mine with the talent he was able to get on campus (07 class). At the time Mainieri had literally no talent in his first year and he sold playing time immediately as well as the chance to play the last year in the old box and first at the new box.

Then came that (09 class) highlighted by Von Rosenberg and Colvin. It was all but signed and sealed at the beginning of August that both would be in school before Von Rosenberg signed two weeks before the deadline and Colvin signing the afternoon he was in freshman orientation. You could feel Paul was in a sense "stabbed in the back" by players who had given their word to stay and signed without informing him. A similar occurrence happened with the (10 class) when Garin Cecchini personally spoke to Mainieri assuring him he wouldn't sign for anything under 1.75 million no matter what and ended up signing for 1.3 million days later.

After the 09 championship Mainieri did let off the gas recruiting wise, handing over a few duties here and there to then recruiting coordinator David Grewe. It's an issue that has long been addressed and fixed.

We're beginning to see a more conservative approach from Mainieri and Dunn in going after high school prospects with that strong faith Dunn can develop and mold raw arms with a ton of projectabiliy. Of course every class will have 2-3 high profile guys but the days of losing 6-8 guys in the draft are over. As long as Alan Dunn is in LSU's dugout the pitching will be in good hands.

This 12' class was a filler class filling the needs on the pitchers mound with young arms and outfielders, so it won't draw a ton of attention nationwide. However Alex Bregman in my opinion will make as big of an impact as DJ LeMahieu has in 08.

Top recruiting classes run in cycles...07 class (#1) 10 class (#1) and the 13 class is shaping up to be very deep, potentially top 3 with bloodlines associated with the program included.

I hope this somewhat answered your question.

I haven't read this thread, but has anybody brought up the issue of why there is no 1B or 3B in the incoming class? It seems possible that Moore & Powell could come through big next year, but it also seems like an unnecessary rolling of the dice to not have good backup plans here.

Also, how big and fast are the following guys...

quote:

Geonte Jackson OF Fr.
Sean McMullen OF Jr.
Chase Rivett OF Fr.
Andrew Stevenson OF Fr.

Jackson 6'0 175 R Fr.
McMullen 5'8 175 L Jr.
Rivett 5'10 185 R Fr.
Stevenson 6'0 170 L Fr.

All have above average to great speed.

I'm out for the night.

Thanks.

EDIT: It seems like there is a recurring pattern here, but I guess I'll just call it a night too and save it for later.

Is there away to follow post of certain people aka "Adam" his information seems to make sense and not just based on emotions. Thanks sure hope to keep hearing from ya, one of the things I hate about football season is we never hear anything about baseball. I know I'm far from the majority, and I love lsu football, but baseball is what I truly love to follow and it's much harder to get info on. Also I would like to say thanks to the 2012 baseball team for a great season.
