Funny thing to me.... I live in Nashville and my UT friends were telling me they liked Chavis.... only problem they had was poor offense under Fulmer. Defense was always their saving grace???????

According to the Tenn fans i know, it's the "bend dont break" mentality that Chavis showed them over the years on 3rd down.

This 3rd down defense may drive me to drinking way more than normal. Cant do scotch anymore, just bourbon and beer.

Does that mean that Miles will call the defensive play on 3rd down or better the offensive play for the other team?

Nice fix. Screw Tenn, it's just crazy that the LSU defense looked liked some of the Vol teams LSU beat in the past.

I remember Chavis and UT giving us all we wanted in the 07 SEC CG. They played excellent. If we didn't get that pick 6 we lose that game. And yes, we were much more talented across the board. Hat tip to Ryan Perilloux (wherever you are) for you contribution that night as well.

Too early to make a call on the 3rd and Chavis or defense as a whole just yet. I think we can all agree that they didn't play really well against UW and their tackeling is what worried me more than anything. I would have liked to see more man coverage because we should have the better skill athletes. I did see the defense try to bring a lot of pressure on third downs, it just wasn't working.

If his defenses are so soft then how was "3rd and Chavis's" defense last year 3rd in the country in total defense, even when UT HAD no offense and the D was on the field ALL of the time! Ya'll bitched like this when we first got Pelini, remember his first game! Just saying, don't judge too soon! Give the dude time to install his defense!!!!

Some people on this board are some of the whiniest most spoiled people I have ever had the pleasure to come across.

Oddly, if you look at my thread posting all those statistics, even last year, he managed to have pretty poor 3rd down conversion numbers.

Truthfully, his overall career numbers are decent. But, there's no denying that historically, his teams give up A LOT of 3rd down conversions. It really is kinda strange given the rest of his numbers.
