I didn't give O a pass, so I'm not gonna give Paul a pass either. Teams all across the country in every sport have young players. The coach needs to get them to produce. Is it a fair assessment? Maybe not, but that's why they get paid millions of dollars.

I sort of agreed with your first post but not this one. It was a down year this year with young players and we still made it to the sec cg. I say that's very well done.

You probably make a good point because with the scholarship limitations, it's harder to keep the recruits coming in year after year in baseball versus football. I guess I just try to be fair with the expectations of the two programs.

LSU wasn’t a good club this year

Because a 2 seed in regional play with unreal amounts of injuries to the most crucial players, among whom were the starting shortstop and slated leadoff hitter, 2 projected weekend starters, 2 more quality arms that were midweek starters or best relievers in the staff, and random short-term injuries to a few other position players that would've contributed in big ways as well. And despite all that the team wins nearly 40 games and won quite a few games over many highly ranked squads along the way. Yes.....this team was just plain awful....

Meanwhile in reality.....this was CPMs best overall coaching job of his career in not just mine but many many much more knowledgeable people out there who agree. And was just the type of year we needed as it will see the most important pieces return and after adding the class that's coming in this terrible team is going to be a preseason top 10 and it's not really a question at this point. Because you know when you have all your guys healthy and don't have to start freshmen as 2/3 of your weekend rotation the terrible team suddenly turns into a national seed contender.....

But yeh you're right. God awful year. Couldn't even believe they had the audacity to even go onto the field and play they stunk so bad, how dare an LSU squad only be good enough to garner a 2 seed. Psh. Bunch of bums.

All Arky had to do was catch a somewhat routine foul ball and they won it. But instead, their SS ran all the way over and threw off both the 1B and the 2B, neither of whom called for the ball. Instead, all 3 whiffed. OSU tied it and then won it with a 2-run shot. Series tied and you just knew OSU would win tonight.

One catch away from the title and then lost it. That's gonna leave a mark.

Well this was my point yesterday. Expectations don't have to be (and shouldn't be) the same every year.

TigerLunatik, you're one of the better posters I've seen in these parts. But O should never be lumped in the same paragraph as any coach with a NC.

Only in what I expect out of them, not by accomplishments or resume. I expect both to be top 10 teams every season and competing for conference titles.

Eta: If I'm not gonna use the young and injured excuses for O, it's not fair to use them for CPM.

It's just my opinion that people like you, who understand college sports, recruiting, coaching carousels, etc. should vary their expectations year to year. Especially with college, because of higher attrition rates.

Arkansas had these people beat and let them off the hook. I just feel the Hog pain going down right now, should have taken care of these people last night. It's sad, you would think teams would know by now how to finish someone off.

Maybe you should use them for both. It's not an excuse, it's just a fact. No need to be hard-headed.

um, you might want to tell tadelatt and howyouluhdat because when i bring up pm's cws records, they go into a rage like i tortured their mothers or something. pm's not getting it done at the cws. he's top 10 for sure but, lsu is still the premier program in a number of ways and shouldn't be surpassed by several other programs like is the case now. of course, when i point that out, the excuses start flying. "but everyone is so much better."

lsu has absolutely dropped a rung on the ladder and losing to the eventual champs multiple times is just another proof

If anything it’s just luck that we happened to play the eventual champs
there's the kind of excuse that i'm talking about. it's like people can't see lsu has slipped. there's just a group of people who are wired to make excuses for pm for some reason

If Heimlich doesn't pull himself out last year, your probably looking at back to back champs

and i totally agree. when i bring up the cws records, some people think i "hate" pm or lsu or some such nonsense. i said that last year might have been pm's best coaching and this year he did a great job as well. from 2010-2016, underwhelming. like i said elsewhere, if he wins at least 2 at the cws next year, he's definitely got the program going back in the right direction. anything less than that confirms he's moving back towards prior inferior results
