24 players miss practice nearly half are starters

Something tells me the LSU team that fans see vs Ga Southern will not be the same team we see vs Texas. The one good thing I can determine from all this is that LSU’s extremely talented freshmen secondary who are the main backups this season are getting much needed reps with the first team. That should serve LSU well this year, but it does feel a little scary seeing so many starters out early even though it’s supposedly minor injuries.

For the love of Gawd.
This is not your daddy’s training camp anymore:
1. These dudes don’t wait until fall camp to get into shape. That is the old way. Today, these dudes train all year round.
2. These dudes were “practicing “ all summer in the schemes. The team leaders were teaching the plays / techniques, etc. Coaches were not present. But, the schemes we’re being practiced.
3. These dudes have sensors all over. They are tracked for hydration, hits (especially head), acceleration, etc. if anything is detected- they are given a day or two to recover - all the while learning in the video room while being given care.
4. In the wake of such tragedies as Maryland death, they take these things seriously.
Back to #1. These dudes are already in shape, are getting enough reps, etc. We can relax. Camp is changing because technology is changing and training is changing.

I’m all for recovery but if they need a couple of days off after less than a week of practice doesn’t sound like they came to camp in shape.

Two to three weeks, that’s how long it takes for most “minor injuries” if coaches want them playing at full strength. That’s why coaches are so glad about having bye weeks.
There’s always some bumps and bruises but nearly half being starters is a bit much. I stand by my forecast, the LSU team we see vs Ga Southern will not be the one we see vs Texas. Coaches will use Ga Southern as sort of a bye week. No disrespect intended.

You have no idea WHY they are “out”.
It is not likely to be ‘oooh. I’m exhausted ‘. Maybe a helmet sensor measured a big hit. Maybe an accelerometer measured a decrease in explosiveness and the player reported a tightness in hamstring. Maybe, a player showed signs of overheating. Maybe an ankle got twisted ( no conditioning avoids that).
Again, things are much different (better) today. The mere ‘missing of days’ isn’t what it used to mean as the days were required for conditioning and teaching scheme.
Reps are important. It just isn’t AS important as it was even just a few years ago.

This sounds like the excuse train starting up early.

Why would anyone need excuses vs Ga Southern? You're going to see a hell of a lot of backups regardless of injury. That makes no sense.

Dr. Frankenstein (BHP) says this all has been scientifically figured out and means absolutely nothing.

Why turn a minor injury into a nagging one? Get everyone as healthy as possible. To me, these decisions aren't about Georgia Southern, but rather about Texas and beyond. In short, they seem wise given the circumstances.

It's camp. It's nothing.
Minor injuries are normal. The idea is just to keep them from becoming nagging injuries.

How many starting camps at LSU that many of us can recall had this many absentees? Yes, we’re old forts, but we’re wise old forts.

I'm pretty sure almost everyone misses a day or so of camp with injuries. They sit to heal, doesn't sound like they're anything major.
They could become major if they didn't miss a couple of days.

Sounds like a great way to get upset.

Agree with everything you’re saying, though admittedly, there is a wee bit of wishful thinking here. Jack Marucci is on the cutting edge of training and may have implemented a new philosophy (in conjunction with the coaches, obviously), to keep the guys fresh and playing at peak performance through October and November.
I mean, there could even be data that can predict an ACL tear (or the increased likelihood of one) by measuring some sort of muscle flexibility. Pulling this completely out of my arse, but for instance, let’s say a day your hamstring flexibility measures less than 80%, you are 23 more likely to have a significant knee injury. Whatever. But the biggest reason is, like you said, camp isn’t about putting a bunch of fatties through 2 a days to work them back in shape in a month. They are already in shape. They need to be ready August 31st, not August 8th. Now, if we’re still seeing this many guys out come game-week, then much reason for concern.

Remember that team named Troy?
Hopefully the team doesn't take your same approach to the opening game.

Trust The Staff, everything will be fine!!

Then we'll all hope it's just faulty sensors. I've run across that problem several times in bathrooms.

My approach?
You mean the same approach every team has in these type of games? You know, let reserves play when applicable?
