2019 offensive player analysis by position: better or worse than 2018

Quarterback: Well this is an easy call. LSU will be better at qb in 2019. Burrow returns with a year in the system. The depth will be better as well with Brennan entering his third camp and freshman Peter picked a pair of pickled Parrish on the roster.
Running back: Brosette was such a pleasant surprise last year, losing his toughness and experience hurts. But talent wise and overall depth wise, we will be better at running back. It’s a position where freshman often contribute and LSU has two good ones in Emery and Davis. Curry wasn’t quite ready for SEC prime time last year. He should be somewhat better. And then Edwards Helaire comes back, a very solid third down back.
Tight end: You never know, but I don’t see a starter as versatile as Foster Moreau on the 2019 roster. Moss is an unknown still. There should be more depth this year at tight end, but it would be hard to say 2019 is better than 2018.
Offensive line: The offensive line LSU returns in 2019 should be more experienced and have more quality depth than 2018. Most everyone is back. This group needs to be more consistent than last year. Alabama loses two all Americans on their defensive line, so hopefully we will not see the mismatch from last year when Bama dominated LSUs offensive line.
Wide receiver: LSU should be much better in 2019 than 2018 at wideout. Just about everyone comes back. We had very little experience in 2018. Justin Jefferson was the big surprise last year, out performing a lot of higher ranked recruits. Marshall and Chase will play in the NFL at some point. They will have greatly benefitted from their playing experience last year and an extra year in the weight room. We have probably more talent att wide out than any other position.
Summary: Well I am trying to be objective and not a homer here. But for tight end, I see LSU being better in 2019 than in 2018 at every other offensive position. Am I wrong?

You probably are correct about everything you said. My question is, if the offense struggles yet again, like many suspect it will, then who will the blame be put on?
Posted on 1/19/19 at 3:23 pm to paper tiger
Doesn’t take a smart man to know that. Our entire offense comes back except 2 players.

CEH is more than "a good third down back"

You’re not wrong. I would venture to say even TE we will be better with Pettigrew out there. A true pass catcher, maybe Thad Moss too.
QB, Burrow easily improves
RB, Emery, Davis, Clyde, Fournette, easy call
WR, no losses continued improvement
OL, no losses continued improvement
TE, Foster out, Pettigrew a better pass catcher IMO.
The recruiting class will help. No losses on offense at all, will lead to major improvement by returning guys. We should be good.

Lack of confidence that we have an offensive coordinator who is capable of leading a highly successful offense.
Will the offense be better next season? They damn well better be, with everything returning. That doesn't mean we have the coaching staff to take us to the next level though. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I think the Special teams will be a push. Much better on kickoff and punt return I’m assuming. Kickoffs, punts both were good and will remain the same. We have 3 different kickers to choose from. While they may not be as good as Cole, I don’t think we'll have to worry about the field goal unit next year.

With the loss of experience at TE in Moreau the OTs really got to step their game up in pass pro. Charles has showed potential when healthy, but still struggled at times, and then Deculus’ first step was so got damn slow he nearly cost Burrow’s life at times. This is the area where I think if they can improve significantly the team could be scary good. My $0.02

So this was not meant to be a slight on CEH who played well last year. He can play all three downs if he has to, but his size versatility and skill set is more suited to a change of pace back on third downs than running between the tackles on first and second down.
That is in contrast to Emery and Davis, two players built to be every down backs. At the next level, CEH is a guy who has a shot at making an NFL roster as a third down back and returner.
He became a three down back for LSU at times out of necessity. On teams like Alabama and Georgia and usually LSU who regular,y have a stable of big backs, CEH would see action mostly on third down.

LB’s will be better. Queen is a stud, and we get Chassion back. Plus Stevens, and Divinity have found roles. Kicking will be worse, but not by much.
CB depth is fine.
Fulton
Stingley
Vincent
Joseph (not sure if he goes back to Safety)
Kirklin (should get better with offseason)
Netherly (should get better with offseason)
Raydarious Jones
Cordale Flott (could redshirt)
Might flip Christian Williams.

If LSUs offense was a C-/ C st best last year, LSUs offense should be between the B- / A- range on average in 2019.

The number 1 cornerback taken in the draft not coming back will hurt us. Stingley will be good but theres no way in hell he steps in and is anywhere close to as good as Greedy.

Don't forget that Lanard will have yet another off season under the weights. He will add very solid depth in situational and 3rd down circumstances as well. No, he's not his brother, but he's dependable and solid, and has the loyalty and pedigree.

Maybe not, but Fulton will be what Greedy was. Fulton actually had better cover grade and overall grade than Greedy this year I believe. Stingley will be a dominant 2 CB. Like what Fulton was this year. Vincent will improve. They should be fine.

Yeah, maybe.
I think Fulton will be almost as good as Greedy was this year, and I think Stingley will be a little better than Fulton was this year. Vincent is coming on strong and is set to really breakout at nickel, too. I see us being a little better at CB next season.

I could see this being the case. I really hope we throw Stingley back there to return KO's and punts right off the bat...at least give him first look.
I only put slight worse because we haven't seen Cade York in college yet...but I do think he'll be very good for us.
