Through the bye week:

2017.....2016
27.4.....29.9 - Scoring per game
6.49.....7.01 - Yards per play
36.7%...43.2% - 3rd down conversion rate
5.07.....6.77 - Yards per rush attempt
9.26.....7.35 - Yards per pass attempt
3...........5 - Interceptions
3...........6 - Fumbles
152......130 - Passer Rating

FWIW, even if you isolate 2017 to our current 3-game winning streak, 2016 still had a higher scoring offense, gained more yards per play, had a higher average yards per rush, and had a higher 3rd down conversion rate.

Thoughts? Surprises?

My main thought would be that 2016 didn't see have the OL issues that 2017 faces.

Also our 1-2 punch was Fournette and Guice which is >>>> Guice and Williams.

Williams has been great this year but he in no way shape or form measures up to LF7.

we also implemented a brand new offense this summer/fall so I'd expect to see some growing pains. We also lost a few veteran starters from last years team. Those stats arent extraordinarily apart so Im not worried.

Stats are like bikinis:

What they reveal is interesting...what they HIDE is vital!

This is a useless comparison as it gives ZERO insight at all

Yeah, there were extenuating circumstances in both years though.

In 2016 we lost our coach and OC 4 games into the season.

Offensive line has played a huge part.

The offense has been improving over the past few weeks and we've seen us game plan for our opponent as well as make ingame adjustments.
It's encouraging to say the least. I think the turnovers (or lack there of) this year has been outstanding.

Does it?

We're throwing the ball more effectively in 2017, and we're turning it over at a much lower clip. However, we're not scoring quite as much, and our overall offense is less efficient than the 2016 version through this point.

Given our Oline youth/inexperience the only surprise for me is the differences are not greater...

Yes. They were fired for a reason.

I know. And those 4 games are more than half of the 2016 numbers, which are still better than the 2017 overall numbers.

Didn’t we have Malachi Dupre, Travis Dural Leonard Fournette, Ethan Pocic, Josh Boutte and Maea Tuehma last year?

My thoughts are that your Oline was gutted, you lost 2 NFL wide receivers, the best RB to ever wear P&G and you’ve had a minimal drop in production.

Matt Canada is doing a great job with limited resources.

Think about this- your missing your starting LT, your starting 2 true freshman on the Oline and you managed to have 1 RB go for 270 yards, another have 100 yds rushing and 100 yards receiving and your QB threw for 200 yds. And most importantly- you scored 40.

All this was against an SECw team. What the fuch else do you want?

The 3rd down conversion rate is probably the most troubling stat.

I think the most shocking comparison would be the 2016 defense vs 2017 defense. I would imagine there is a very sizeable difference.

You also had Brandon Harris, early Etling, Les Miles, and Cam Cameron, yet 2016 outperformed through this point.

I think it's a wash at this point, although the trend is certainly better.

Yes, I see your point. Ensminger did an excellent job against teams that were not stout defensively. Even against Florida I think we had a good game offensively in 2016.

I think it's too early to call MC a bust or a savior and 11/4 he has a chance to earn his money.
