He isn't going to. Jordan Jefferson is THE STARTING QB @ LSU. He has proved himself and there is no debate. PPL want Shep second string so he can start getting his feet wet. He is a huge playmaker. The mechanics @ qb will come in time. In high school, he just made everyone look silly with his legs. He hasn't had to focus on his arm much. Also, Chris Garrett will push Lee on the Depth Chart as well. I hear he isn't color blind...

You realize that its no credit of RS's that CB's didn't make picks that they should have?

I didnt see any Pick 6s. You can say what you want but i didnt see any and i know 4 sure he cant do ne worse than JL. I mean all i asked was for JL to take a sack throw ball away ne thing but INT and he cant even do that.

LSUtigahs 28, it was an ALL-STAR game. The whole purpose is to try and showcase yourself. Making the smart play doesn't get you on Sportscenter. There isn't really a game plan. Not really a good comparison. They hardly ran the ball.

Question: does JL not get any slack for being a RS-Fr? There's no denying that he had a rough end to the season and he was the reason we lost a few games down the stretch. But is he that bad that we can't expect him to get better?

Freshmen QBs stink all the time. The key is whether or not they improve in the offseason. I think he deserves another chance before we write him off as a being no good.

Was I ever debating this?

Barring injury Shep will likely get more snaps at QB than JL.

My point this whole thread has been that IF JJ goes down we are going to need JL to pass. RS is not ready to do more than 1-2 passes per game on play fakes.

Agreed, which is exactly my point.

Best pick of the season is when he sailed it 20 yards over Tollivers head with no pressure on him what so ever. Worst pass i have ever seen by a QB.

Of course they aren't focused on winning the game, but to showcase yourself you need to not throw picks. Brehaut utterly failed at this and made himself look stupid and hurt his hype and reputation.

Ya Lee is def. a good backup. I will concede you that. I think we are agreeing on this whole thing. I just need to see a lot more out of JL in how he carries himself on the sideline. I think that is my biggest beef. Because, like you said freshman QBs stink all the time. It's JL's reaction that really ticks me off.

Who cares if he throws picks LSU seems like they dont have a problem playing a QB that does so.

I will say this: If Lee doesn't improve, he belongs on the ALL-Garbage team with Josh Booty.

A few on here argue that the QB competition is wide open and it would be a fine thing if Lee is named the starter.

Yep.

Anyone should agree that Lee would make a fine backup. I'm not sure if Lee would want to stick around in that situation, but it definitely is better for LSU. RS will probably play a little in some role.

As much as he gets bashed on here GG said before the season that leadership was going to be JL's downfall which is at least partly the case.

Shep can throw a roll out or a PA pass once or twice a game, but if JJ goes down expect to see time split between Lee and Shepp.

Redshirt Garrett and Hatch is the 3rd string?

Ya well the fact that Shepard is lightning helps the fact he isn't a drop back passer. It's really hard to defend mobile qbs. Pryor is a horid passer but he is still tough to prepare for. PPL reference the nice drives against UGA for Lee. If you actually watch the game (I was there and watched replay), most of our good drives came from running it right down their throats. The ONLY PASSES THROWN WERE SCREEN PLAYS ON TWO CONSECUTIVE DRIVES. If you don't think Hatch/Shep/Garrett could do that, you are mistaken.

That just about sums up the know-how of the "bash Jarrett Lee" crowd.

If JL ever matches Booty's All-SEC performance, I would love to see how many of y'all have the sac to man up and say, "I was talking utter bullshite out my arse, and he proved that I don't know the first thing about football and should never, ever try and act like I do again."

Whatever the under is on that, I'm taking it.

There have been few -- VERY few -- athletes to ever suit up for LSU that have deserved the kind of criticism that Lee (or Booty, for that matter) have received. And neither Lee nor Booty are among them.

Booty's ALL SEC was the biggest joke of all time. I'd have to do some research, but either it was the media or the coaches voted him that. The other side sat back and couldn't quite understand it. Wait, I am sorry. Didn't we win the SEC title & a BCS bowl the first year Rohan got the sp? Josh Booty was horrid. When Saban finally said to heck with the politics of Evangel, and played Rohan in the PEACH BOWL, (ha a sign?) we set records in the passing game. Does the 500 YARD PERFORMANCE AGAINST BAMA ring a bell?
