Which game was LSU the bigger underdog? I find the scenario strikingly similar. All UT had to do was win the SEC and they were on to the BCS National ship.. LSU was 8-3 and loss to Ole Miss, Florida, and Tennessee 26-18. What was so different in the team the second meeting against Tennessee? I remember Matt Mauck and Dominick Davis killin it in the second half.

The spread from 01 was only 7. UGA this year is a way better team than that Tennessee team was.

The 2001 team had its “come to jesus” moment after ole miss and beat tShit out of auburn. Went to the Georgia dome full of swag and belief. Rohan and Toe got injured but we rode our luck a little and made the plays we had to make. The longer the game went on Tennessee probably started to feel the pressure of the national championship game slipping away.

Matt Mauck was the difference. It was a great game.

Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the UGA -15 spread is the biggest opening line in SECCG history (30yrs)

Spreads were different 20 years ago. Nobody was giving 01 LSU a chance. I think OP is a great comparison, basically what I’ve been thinking since Bama game.

Also, JD is very much capable of a Mauck-like performance provided a good game plan. He’s the key to keeping a defense like that on their heels.

You say that but Tennessee was 18 point dogs to Florida the week before. Florida in Spurrier's last year with Rex Grossman was the team to beat, but the Vols stunned them to punch their ticket in. I was at the 01 Auburn game, when everyone saw that Tennessee had won I remember LSU fans thinking we had a good chance to win as we were watching our team beat the crap out of AU, way more than it would have been if we had to play Florida

We were underdogs but I can't agree that no one was giving LSU a chance.

Tennessee should have never knocked out Rohan Davey in the first half.
