I sure would have liked to know how the 2006 or even the 2005 team would have done in a playoff. I don't think anybody would want to play us. It sure would beat the crap out of going to the Chik Fil-A Bowl.

2) There will almost always be 5 or 6 with identical records teams vying for the last 2 spots, so someone will always feel jobbed, just like the BCS

No matter what, there will always be a controversy. There will always be a deserving team left out. And there will also be times when a playoff gives a less-deserving team a shot it shouldnt have against an undefeated or 1-loss team.

dumb! sure one team will get cheated! but would you rather a rightful third place team be cheated or a possible 8th place team beat cheated?

Like Little Ricky "The Crybaby" Jones crying all over the media because Oklahoma State beat out Tulane for the 64th spot in the NCAA Baseball Regionals.

Unless you guarantee a spot for EVERY conference - which is absolutely, 100% impossible - you're going to have all of these crybabies lying up to tell us why they deserved to be in a playoffs with a 7-4 record when they played absolutely NO ONE all year long.

The regular season IS A PLAYOFF.

Tell that to Auburn 2004 (11-0 regular season, sec champion, and sugar bowl champion). In a playoff, you have to lose to get knocked out. I see no losses.

The best part about our 2007 NC was the crazy talk about the possibility of 2 teams losing and then we would play for the NC. The current ranking system is unique, interesting, something to talk about, and just as valid as the Giants being the champs over the Patriots 2 years ago. The current season is a playoff, it makes the season intense. Half of college football is bitching about overranking USC and ND. Why take that away?

it's kinda like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole i guess... what makes sense is really different from year to year

some years (99, 02, 05) football is lucky enough to have only two major teams run the table and the system looks pretty good IMO... most years obviously it does not work out that way

I've absolutely positively against any system that would automatically quality conference champions into a playoff for a national championship... depending on the circumstance the conference champs are often nowhere near the best teams in the country... and in rare but real cases the conf champs may not be even the best team in the conference that year (yes, out of conference games matter and upsets happen that shouldn't - common sense tells anyone that)

Force me to pick a system and I'd say a six team playoff chosen by a committee (heavily influenced by the BCS rankings). Emphasis should be given to picking the top six teams with a reasonable discussion for being the best team in the country... that might or might not include a mid major or more than one team from a given conference. The top two teams in the rankings get a bye week... the bottom four play each other in a qualifier game (hosted by the higher ranked team) to play at the home stadium of the top two teams... the championship game is still played in a neutral stadium

But of course this will never happen since it would cost the bowl system too much money
