They said she stepped out.

Do we have a set-up that we can practice our events on the podium.
Honestly, I’m not sure. I’m sure someone here will know.

What happened with Sierra on floor?
It looked really close live, but I thought she was in. They immediately marked her out and later showed it to Jay. He didn’t protest so I’m guessing she was actually out.
The replay showed the top of her foot, but the ESPN ticker on my TV covered the bottom half and I couldn’t see the line at all.

We have a podium meet in br in a few weeks that also counts as an away meet: it’s at the raising canes center.

I have wanted to see that floor lineup all year! I still feel like we could tinker with vault lineup and I love Alexis’ height on bars but I wonder if she didn’t go so high would her landing be better. Also can she take out the front on her beam or does she actually need it to meet requirements?

Back of foot crossed the line.. you could see it from my seats.. I am not very good at catching details..but I thought I saw it …. Mentioned it to my wife before scores came up…

Can’t ever recall us being this strong on beam.

Couldn’t tell for sure from my seats, but I’m not good at catching details either! It’s a shame, because she had a great routine going up until that point.

Ok my thoughts:
Beam was amazing, the best maybe I have ever seen, and certainly since the macadaeg, hambrick, and finnegan days. If they can retain this consistency, then we may be able to make a run at Oklahoma. The negative is that Jeffrey won’t ever score that high in post-season with that standing front tuck (in general all her landings are very deep which hurts us on bars as well). That being said the standing front tuck was better than it has been.
Aleah!!! I am so glad they have switched back to Y1.5 - she will give us an immediate boost with that over the omelianchik, and I hope her wrist can handle it (though it shouldn’t have gotten a 10). Also I am so so so glad she finally had a good beam set - I think it would have gone 10 if besides the dismount. But also her floor was as the best it has been all year, which is great given her struggles the last three weeks.
I also agree with another poster that I feel better about this score than the 198.475 - but the real crux is that we have GOT to stick more vault and bars dismounts.
Speaking of bars, that lineup has regressed in recent and weeks and, unfortunately, it’s clear that Tatum has regressed. Does anyone know why Konnor wasn’t in, she is surely in oir best case line up. I thought Savannah’s bars were the best they have looked all year and could have gone higher. I also agree with another poster who says it may be wise to separate Haleigh and Savannah since those two routines are exactly the same and I do think Savannah’s jaeger form is better.
Finally, Haleigh was off tonight, notably on vault and floor. I unfortunately don’t know that we can rest her against Florida…especially as we are still looking for a higher 197 road score. But I do think she probably needs a break (I have never seen her vault like that).
All in all a really good step forward for beam - let’s keep it going at Florida.

If you’ve watched any of the interviews Jay has done or the last away meet, or even the coverage for tonight’s meet, Jay has said multiple times that Konnor has been dealing with some back pain lately and hasn’t trained much in the gym other than beam over the last few weeks so they’re trying to limit her routines as much as possible until she starts to feel better. Unfortunately with that, it meant Tori was the next person up for bars and a better option over Livvy who (Jay had voiced in today’s interview) warmed up well today on that event and would’ve gone in for Tori had she been off. I think the regression you are referring to is just a matter of the fact that she’s only competed one other time so far this season a month ago on podium and before that, hadn’t competed since nationals. She only has one year of experience under her belt and has battled injuries in the first couple years of her college career so it’s gonna take her maybe another meet or 2 to find her footing again and get back to competing how she did last year

I did think it was her back, but I was at the meet and did not watch the broadcast where they apparently mentioned it. As for Tatum, I think her routine has always look labored, and it is worse currently. That could certainly be some rust vis-a-vis not competing, but it is noticeable. I do think next year she is probably back in the rotation so I am not averse to her being in occasion, but it’s far from best case, especially when we have been having trouble sticking landings over there (I know she may have technically stuck hers, but it was so deep as to nearly have been a fall).

This would have been the spot to rest her, but now what? I doubt it it’s next week at FL. So then against Bama? Or the podium challenge the next week? Not a lot of great options. We do have North Carolina before the SEC Champ, but heck that’s a month away.

Are our options for resting Haleigh so limited that we can’t risk it? I mean, what is the status of all these other girls on the team that we literally never see? Elena, Bryce, Coen, Cammy, Jillian, Leah Miller, those are the names that come to mind. Dunne on bars maybe. Barring a fall, are any of those girls not capable of at least a respectable 9.80? I assume they are good if they made the team. Of course not Haleigh good, but no one is! We certainly can’t afford to lose her, so I hope we protect her as much as possible. It sure would be nice to see some of this depth that we have this year.

I don’t think it’s a problem that we don’t have the depth - it was the very slow start for NQS purposes that it is making it hard, so we have to get a very high road score next week - and unfortunately, that means Haleigh has to go, most likely
Posted on 2/17/24 at 9:57 am to LSUgymfan420
I mean it would be nice if we could rest her on some events. Even against Florida next week. Make her last in the floor lineup like kiya and if you don’t need her scratch her spot or put in livvy. It’s one score in what should be a very secure event for us. Same with bars. Put in Aleah just this one week. Put cammy in vault. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Yes we would all love a win at Florida but I would love a championship more and we need a rested Haleigh for that.

Maybe if it was at home. But it’s an away meet and we have been slacking on the road. We need the absolute best score we can get for NQS.

Well that’s why I said we could rest her on floor and maybe even bars. Not beam or vault but we should have enough depth, especially on floor to at least rest her there.

If we’re really to compete for a national title, there can’t be a ton of scores below a 9.2

To answer this question: Elena hasn’t trained much this year because of her back, Coen has exhibitioned in the one meet we’ve been able to have her do, Jill’s not 100% from her elbow surgery last fall yet. Not sure about Cammy or Bryce but I don’t think Leah is quite ready to even compete for us and give us even a 9.8 score we need to fill a spot on a lineup.

Considering Aleah only just started training bars again this past week, I don’t think it’s wise to have her compete on that event, especially against Florida when we know they’re on the rise and they’re gonna be a tough team to beat at home. If anything, Tori would take her spot if Konnor’s back isn’t bugging her, otherwise I see Amari over Livvy in that spot. Not sure if Cammy is ready to go on vault yet but I’d rather Chase go in that spot if she’s mentally and physically ready to go since we know she can hit. As for floor, if Konnor is ok to go, I’d rather put her in Haleigh’s spot and keep Sierra as our lead off since Livvy’s score almost always gets dropped on that event and Sierra is cleaner and performs better than Livvy
