We have to do better than 2 and BBQ in Omaha this year. This team is Mainieri's best preseason team.

You spent way too much time doing that, and I'm not even sure why.

I never said you knocked him. you said "Hughes and Smith aren't as far apart as you feel they are" i was just saying i know josh is better just stating my opinion on the team as a whole. but i just got confirmation josh will be the SS and hal will start at third if he dont hit third and second belong to bianco and broussard

Confirmation from who? And I have no clue what the rest of that sentence is supposed to say, outside of Smith starting at short.

You mean from the 3 games that Smith played there while hurt?

FWIW, this is what D1Baseball has as the projected lineup:

C Brock Mathis, So. Transfer--Northwest Fla. State College
1B Saul Garza, So Transfer--Howard (Texas) College
2B Drew Bianco, Fr. Freshman--Oxford, Miss. (HS)
3B Hal Hughes, So. .221/.292/.289 1 20 2
SS Josh Smith, Jr. .250/.435/.625 2 5 0
LF Daniel Cabrera, So. .315/.405/.525 8 54 2
CF Zach Watson, Jr. .308/.366/.479 7 34 14
RF Antoine Duplantis, Sr. .328/.381/.443 2 48 19
DH CJ Willis, Fr. Freshman--Ruston, La. (HS)

They're usually pretty tapped in (meaning this is probably directly from Mainieri). They were the only people that listed Eric Walker as a weekend starter before his freshman season.

So, there is legitimacy to the idea of Bianco starting at 2B.

But what I saw then and what I saw of Hughes last year, I’m putting Hughes at short.

JMO.

Smith was at third 2 years ago and was awesome there. He tried to play SS for three games last year with an injury that kept him out for the rest of the season.

That’s what I need to see. I have no idea how Smith handles SS while healthy.

However from what I have seen of Hughes if he is in the lineup I like him at short.

But honestly he’s going to have to turn a big corner with his bat in order to stay in this lineup. We have too many hitters to justify his bat in the lineup if he hasn’t improved.

In short from what I’ve seen of the two I want Smith at short but that’s because I’m not real crazy about Hughes being in the lineup

It would surprise me if Bianco immediately beat out Broussard at 2b

I think Bianco is too good to not have a spot. Idk whether it’ll be at 2nd, 3rd, or catcher but he’s going to be somewhere

Or his glove has to outshine the others, combined with the rest of the team really producing, to the point that you can justify trading off his offense for his defense

I don't know about his ability to be a solid catcher. Maybe he is good enough, I have no idea. Do you remember how well Broussard hit before he got hurt last season though? Was kind of expecting that same guy back, and his defense was already a plus at second base.

True.

But you’re finally seeing runs scored again in college baseball and with our level of pitching I think offensive output will dictate our level of success.

And I don’t think Hal’s glove is THAT much better than Smiths

I see Bianco at 3rd with Smith at SS but I tend to be wrong about this shite all the time.

I love Broussard. He was one of our best and most consistent hitters last year before he got hurt
