Why wouldn't Gunner take an official?

Can someone please explain to me the difference between an official and an unofficial visit?
And if the official visit is so LSU can wine n dine you and your family, show you the facilites, Baton Rouge, etc. then why wouldn't recruits like Gunner only come to view the game and not be on an official?

Maybe he is going to come see the campus and decide if he thinks LSU is a school he wants to visit officially. But I think the main reason it is unofficial is because his family has the cash to fly all over the nation

Either he plans on making another trip at a later date, or he plans on using his officials for other schools.

Bingo. He's coming in with the fam, who can afford it, because they want to see the campus themselves (maybe don't feel like doing the whole tour this weekend). Basically if we get an official at a later date, it means that we made an impression.

Is there a reliable source that states that he is really coming this weekend?

I think it's unofficial because he doesn't plan to go thru the whole OV experience. It leaves him the opportunity to take an official later if he chooses but it will have to be quick if he plans to enter at mid year as planned. It's getting pretty close to the deadline to get your paperwork into the clearinghouse if a kid wants to get started on time. Let's hope this visit impresses him. I'm not a huge fan of Kiel but I do like him more than Liggins as a qb.

All things considered, I think we will be fine without either one of them...

he'd be a 4 star most years.
i want him more for class perception than talent; dont get me wrong hes a quality player but claussen and crist were both better in HS.

He doesn't want to waste an official visit on us til he sees if it is worth it.

I think I'd prefer to err on the side of having too many quarterbacks than too few...

I would be delighted if he commits.
Its important that LSU is in the mix, nationally.
Bama and Mich and Stanford and Cal, and ND all recruit QB's nationally.
Its a great thing that he is coming. And to the guy who said maybe he should be rated a high 4. I dont care. High 4, or low 5, both would be considered a future NFL player. Look at the rivals definitions. a rivals 6.0 4 star is considered an NFL prospect. there are no sure things. We learned that with Perilloux who was a 5, and with RS 10 who was also a 5.
only 20% of 5's make it to the NFL.
