not playing devils advocate, being honest. this offense is incompetent, and is incapable of recognizing it's best play maker b/c he's a frosh; not to mention Randle being a complete non-factor.
And the best play-maker isn't even playing much.

I believe they can carry the load. Ridley is ready to break out next year, IMO, Ford will be a stallion, and I think Calhoun and Lache are fairly similar backs. I dont think Lache is that much faster than Calhoun, if at all, and Calhoun can "slash" and be shifty, although maybe not as good as Lache.
Also, if Lache does come here I don't believe he automatically gets playing time. There are some seasoned RBs in front of him. He'll probably see the field, but i dont think he goes straight to the front of the line, for sure.

You do realize that Calhoun and Ford will be redshirt freshman, right?
I have been very disappointed with the way Shep has been used so far, but LSU has three seniors at RB and believe it or not, they have all played since they were freshman. It's not surprising that they haven't been benched.
People are critical of the player development at LSU, but that is because they expect every top 100 player to become a superstar. That's just not possible. Look at what the amazing running backs at USC have done so far. They were more highly touted than the guys at LSU (or any other school), and out of 6 or 7 guys, you might get a 4th or 5th round pick (Stafon Johnson before the freak injury) and wherever McKnight ends up. That's pretty much it for pro careers for the greatest 2-3 years of running back recruiting in the history of college football.

Threads like these are awesome. So now, Auburn has it all going on and we suck? You think a player of Lache's status is going to make his decision based on the first 4 games?
Panic much?
Panic much?

Everyone needs to get together and make their minds up on Ford. Some "experts" say he's not even a SEC caliber back, and some are ready to crown him Herschel Walker Jr.
yes, that was a shot. can't help myself

He was just trying to generate a discussion. Noone is panicking.

Ridley, Murphy, Ford and Calhoun won't cut it?
Ridley = Coming off a serious injury
Murphy = Just got seriously injured
Ford/Calhoun = Never carried it once in college

yea, but a RSfreshman has seniority over a true freshman. Im not just talking about the RB position. Miles has shown time and time again, and right now with RR, that he favors upperclassman. Not only does he show it on the field, he has even stated it to the media.

Are you counting on LSU's firing of it's OL coach to be a selling point?

Lache has to be excited for the opportunity to play with Shep.

A long time to heal before next season starts.
Oh, and add in Ware to the discussion as well.

Maybe, maybe not. Who knows at this point? They all have question marks right now.
Auburn on the other hand has a clear cut plan for tailback in the coming years. If we had a freshman running back on pace for a 1000 yard season, I would be arguing the same point in reverse.

Should he bench LaFell or Toliver? Should they just not throw the ball to tight ends? Look, LSU's offense isn't running a lot of plays right now and Jefferson is not a great passing QB yet, so the 3rd, 4th, and 5th receivers won't get the ball as much as fans would like, at least until the running game improves.
Keiland Williams got significant time as a freshman, Peterson and Chad Jones certainly did as well. Richard Dickson was a main target since his sophomore year, Ciron Black started as a redshirt freshman, Barksdale played a decent amount as a true freshman and started every game as a true sophomore, etc. Look at the young players who have had to come in. Guys like Aghayere haven't exactly been superstars when they came in.
Of the 2008 and 2009 recruits, who should be playing more right now and who would you bench? The only position I can see a change being made is with the OL.
I don't even like Les Miles. I never did, and I think Saban screwed us by leaving so late in the process that all of the good coaches had already signed contracts, but I can still look at this stuff logically. Shep is getting screwed, but I can't really blame the staff for any other freshman not playing as much as the fans want.

No, but it could be used to explain away his fears on our biggest drawback at the moment.

Don't try to use logic. Randle is going to be running #2 next season when Lafell, Jackson and Mitchell are gone. Doesn't matter though, if he was the best QB at Bastrop last year he should be the best wide receiver at LSU this year as a true freshman right? Makes a ton of sense.

Playing Chris Mitchell and RJ Jackson over RR is a joke.
Most of the guys you stated that played early only played simply becasue there was noone ahead of them. Like Downs, Aghyere, and Edwards this season. They are young guys getting PT becaue there is noone ahead of them. chad Jones didnt get to play FS until the end of the season when taylor got hurt even though taylor sucked all season long.

RJ has been great so far this season.
Chris Mitchell and Randle are getting about the same amount of passes thrown their way. I agree that Randle is better than Mitchell, but we are seriously talking about 1 extra pass per game (about half of which will get caught). In other words, if Randle was utilized properly, he would have 3 receptions for 45 yards instead of 1 for 15 yards. I am sure that someone will use this to say that Randle should be catching 200% more passes with a better head coach
Ummm....that's why 90% of true freshman play anywhere.

quote:RR was the no. 1 player coming out of HS, he should have more than one reception, but there are two legit WR's ahead of him, fine. But Randle isn't the real issue, everyone knows the main issue is the inability to use Shepard. It's indefensible.

Do you think it's our inability or are we literally trying to save him until UGA and UF? Since we are having a hard enough time scoring as it is, maybe it's a desperate ploy..IDFK.
