Bower and Herron seem to be 4.7 at best???? aint bad but at best....

40 times couldn't be more irrelevant for defensive linemen.

Herron

I bet he stays at DE

I think he can, but the issue will be weight. He's coming in around 260-265. If he stays there, then I agree, DE. If he starts putting on weight, then Chavis moves him inside.

He gained most of that in the last year. I doubt he can put much more weight on. Probably just get more lean. Haley plays 260-275 pounds DE's anyways

We need 2 or 3 DE's to step up next year, only 1-2 DT's. Herron will be needed more at DE

You doubt an 18 year old coming into a college S&C program cant put on weight?

Have you watched any film on Bower? Dude is fast.
Have you watched any film on Patterson? Dude is fast.
Have you watched any film on Neal? Dude is fast.
Have you watched any film on Beckwith? Dude is the truth.

Good lord. 4.7 is pretty damn elite for a Defensive end out of high school.

4.51 in the shuttle, not the 40.....

4.7 is fast for a DE... no doubt.....

But when comparing to what other teams have,..... nothing stanbds out on paper to me....

Like I said, just gotta trust the coaches evaluation and ability to spot talent as they have

I am not worried over anything... I just am not 100% sold that we have ELITE guys that we will easily see that LSU has one of the top DLs as we have in recent years....

Will we have a solid DL??? yes
But LSU was scary good on DL... not great big deal about speed... but the absolute Elite doesn't seem to be there---

True enough, it does not take 40 yards to sack a QB.....

Are these guys mor ein the mold of Lavar Edwards than Mingo/Montgomery?

Yesterday's class was everything thing we could hope for.we didn't get rn but miles and company pulled out all the stops.having 10 guys leave might actually have been a good thing.we will be in the hunt next year.we are always in the hunt.chavis' d looks versitile.the only thing i might actually have a little concern about is place kicker and only because we have seen hairston kick field goals.but we know that he has a hell of a leg.

What people don't understand is that elite LBs usually run in the 4.55.47 range, and they are less bulky than DEs...

Ali Highsmith was timed at 4.9 in the 40. And he was an All-American. At outside linebacker.

Ryan Baker ran a 4.85 in the 40. He was considered a "heat seeking missile" at LSU. Also at outside linebacker.

To even suggest that a 250 lb Defensive End is lacking elite speed when they run a 4.7 shows a complete lack of football knowledge.
