This is an Insider article on the main page right now, but it is about the top uncommitted prospects and I felt like I should post this to show why they either need to A.) Keep up better or B.) Stop focusing on it:

Landon Collins:

quote:

Collins has made official visits to Alabama and LSU, the schools many suspect are the leaders right now. He made an official visit to Texas last weekend; Collins has been fascinated by the Horns since Mack Brown initially offered him, and they are considered the dark horse here. It will be awfully tough to pry him away from the hometown Tigers (Baton Rouge is about 20 minutes from his home), but this is too close to call. He will make his decision Jan. 5 at the Under Armour All-America Game.

First, his official visit to LSU is next weekend, and he cancelled his visit to Texas way in advance.

Gunner Kiel

quote:

It looks as if Kiel's recruitment could come to a close soon after he reopened things in October with a decommitment from Indiana. Over the past two weeks, Kiel officially visited LSU, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt after unofficially visiting the Tigers and Irish earlier in the season. All indications point to Kiel staying close to home and committing to Notre Dame, and a decision could come soon, as Kiel wants to enroll early.

As we all know, it is a Vandy/LSU battle yet Notre Dame will land him.

Anthony Alford

quote:

Alford is one of the top two-sport stars from the Magnolia State, and he wants to play both football and baseball in college. He already has made an official visit to Nebraska and will visit LSU this coming weekend. He will have January trips to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss. Alford has given no sign as to where he's leaning.

Really? Everyone in Mississippi even knows he is heading to LSU.

Javonte Magee

quote:

Considering: Baylor, Missouri, Texas, Texas A&M

No mention of LSU being considered despite LSU being his favorite school.

And that is just some of the prospects LSU is considering. I don't know if any of the others are off-base like these are, but these are the top prospects in the nation. You would think they would follow them a little more closely

Yea, they did not evaluate La properly this year at all also. Oh well, ESPN will never be the source for prime college football recruiting news. It is what it is.

He has never publicly named a leader during his recruitment.

Neither has Channing Ward but you feel the way you about getting him because of things you know. Don't be that guy.

There is a lot of talk whirling around about Alford and Southern Miss right now. Depending on who the hire as their new coach.

The only way Alford doesn't go to LSU is if we turn him down. No other way to put it. If Les tells him that he's a take then he'll be at LSU or at least commit to LSU. Don't need him to publicly say he loves LSU. Things have a way of getting around. Rasco last year and even Kiel right now are examples of how the kids never say a word but yet info is pretty free flowing if you can get through the bullshite that comes with it. Lots of loose lips and ride alongs in the recruiting world. Also a ton of just pure speculation and bullshite especially from the major recruiting sites and their national analysts. We could do most of their jobs and report pure rumor and speculation if given the resources they have.

Yeah I think the Texas comment may have had something to do with the LHN

Sucks this is only just beginning. And obviously Notre Dame can get anyone, anytime, anywhere, their notre dame damnit!

Its always about the media darlings down to the core, even in rumors.

For instance, how many years do we see go by in the NBA where anyyyytimeee a big time player is a FA or wants to be traded always just LOVES the Knicks or Lakers? Every damn time. Same concept.

There is no way he would pick USM over LSU if LSU takes him. He is favoring LSU the most right now but is sitting behind Kiel in priority. We also are going to have Hill in this class making it 2 runningbacks. We have 3 spots left after Hill. The staff is shooting for Kiel, Collins, and Phillips/Spence/Edwards with Magee/Alford/Liggins as backup options.

Yes there is. If his head coach gets an assistant job at Southern Miss (which is rumored if they hire a certain HC) he will go to Southern Miss over all of his SEC schools. Plus the fact he goes to high school with and played baseball with Southern Miss' head baseball coach Scott Berry's son also helps Southern Miss' odds.

SO YES, he could easily stay at home and go to Southern Miss.

So LSU next weekend, when does he visit Bama?

Seriously, ESPN has the money & capability to be by far the best in HS coverage, prospect videos, & up-to-date/accurate analysis.

And yet it seems they only let a handful of scouts cover the whole nation, and provide the crappiest one-reel videos of all the scouting outlets. It's mind-boggling inept.

I will give them credit though for their televised All-Star game. ESPN's quality production & in-game analysis makes NBC's US Army game seem like a local access broadcast.
