Trashy classless move by Miles.

I guess sticking with the kid for 2 years and giving him a chance to play was trashy.

2 things happen: First the Luther Davis rule was broken. All of a sudden he wanted to look around. Not good. Second, It appears Miles had to pick. I sure if he did what he did, RR basicaly said I'm not comming if Benton is comming. If he takes Benton instead of RR, it would have been a loss for LSU. Who's to say Benton doesn't #1 leave after 1 year, or #2 Fail out.

How do you think thats shady Troy? So risk not getting RR, by hoping Benton gets his grades strait. Two years we have been waiting. How long before we move on. Mark at least was qaulified and a good QB. Pewee carrol was crying b/c his QB was leaving and a BIG ??? on your Offense. He was Shady and down rite selfish.

That's the whole problem. You take an academic problem case in Benton which in turn sends Randall to Bama, and Benton keeps on struggling academically, which there's no reason to think he would do anything BUT struggle with grades, and then after a year or two of not being able to keep it up, he fails out and LSU ends up with nothing but our honor to keep us warm at night. Yeah, that's a real good trade off there.

It shows that college football is a business cut throat at that and it should be a heads up to all recruits to not owe an allegiance to a certain school even if it is the state-flagship, take all your visits and go where the situation best fits you. Benton toast of the town the last couple years to being called a bum. Let RR drop a few passes ala Lafell 07. The fans will turn on him to.

Most people can't handle the real world. In fact according to the last presidential election about 52% can't handle it.

Tell a kid he's got an offer and then pull it.

That's shady any way you slice it.

You got a better player, but the integrity and "all around good guy" image of Les Miles has taken a hit. What sucks for LSU is while you may have a better WR in the next 2 or 3 years, this will be used by other SEC teams in "negative recruiting" against you.

People are making a lot of unfounded assumptions. It actually seems likely that Benton already knew he was going to Auburn and may have actually told this to Miles before his scholarship was pulled. If so, no harm, no foul on any of the participants.

Stop stirring shite.

LSU did keep recruiting Benton right up until Mr. Randle made his radio show comments. LSU hosted Benton just last weekend. If signing Randle meant letting Benton go - and it appears that is exactly what happened - then Miles did the right thing. Benton is damaged goods. He could end up being great, but he is a risk. He's a free agent who hasn't played in more than a year. Randle is indeed a first round draft choice and the better choice, even though Benton may be a better receiver than Randle right now. And recruiting is so much about perception. Had Miles not signed Randle, that would have been two huge prospects from the state of Louisiana that he would have lost in three signing days. Joe McKnight of Curtis in New Orleans left LSU for USC two years ago. And Randle would have gone to Alabama. Egad!
The above quote is from your boy Guilbeau's blog.

When he was asked if Benton's scholarship was pulled at the press conference, Miles answered in the affirmative, ignoring Joe Alleva's frantic gesticulations indicating he should do nothing of the sort.

Miles pulled the offer to placate Randle's Dad, and save the boosters from another meltdown of Joe McKnight to SC proportions.

It ain't stirring shite, it is what it is.

I prefer to get my information from people that actually know rather than just regurgitate speculation. I would suggest you read this thread.

I've read the "dmitch" threads, just as I read most other Randle threads. If memory serves, dmitch mentioned that while there was no bad blood between RR and Benton, they weren't the best of friends or anything.

Even if one concedes that Randle's Dad is a good guy and wasn't trying to force Miles' hand by mentioning issues with the depth chart if Benton's offer stands, the booster meltdown if Randle had gone to Bama WOULD have happened. It probably would have been worse than the McKnight thing because Bama is a direct competitor with LSU, and then of course there's everyone's favorite vertically challenged Napoleonic villian-coach in T-town, Nick Saban.

My perception hasn't wavered. I'm not on any "I hate LSU" crusade, I rather enjoy watching your team and discussing things with LSU fans (whether we agree on them or not).

Is Benton the "thuggie, druggie" type guy ala RP?

If so that'd make his story much tidier.

hate this decision and wish Les would have stuck to his guns, regardless of the results. RR dictated Les' decision. And that's never good.

Hopefully this has not set a precedent with RR, but we'll see. Less than classy move on Miles part.
