Exactly, Chad Jones went through this last year. Lee wouldn't be missing half the baseball season if he concentrated on football in the spring.

Elway also excelled as a baseball player playing a right fielder, finishing his senior year hitting .361 with nine home runs and 50 RBIs in 49 games and a 5–4 record with a 4.51 ER

He was a position player with a sorry ERA. He was not an ace. Everyone else is a position player pretty much and proves my point.

QB's, starters in the SEC, have a lot of trouble trying both. If you don't think so then you are just a fool. Look how far back you had to go. Locker is a stud but he is FOOTBALL first.

Not saying it cant be done, jsut saying he won't be devoted to qb and therefore will struggle to play unless that changes.

So take your examples and shove em, I clearly said STARTING QB AND PITCHER moron, and you come with a list of outfielders.

LSUSaint i get your point. I believe Locker gave up baseball to focus on QB because it just takes up too much time. However, QB requires the time, not so much pitching. As a pitcher, your bullpen sessions do not take up too much time. His conditioning would be done with football. If Elway could do it, Lee could. As for the other guys listed, bringing them up proves that the poster doesn't quite understand your point. It's not the two sports, it's the positions. QB requires a ton of time but I think there are ways to get it done. The baseball team wouldn't need Lee when he doesn't pitch, but his arm would need to recover...

Who says that Lee won't be? Let's face it.. most pitchers rely on natural talent. They put in crazy amounts of work but there is only so much they can do in a week before they're hurting themselves.. and it's really not that much. I'd bet the average QB puts in 3-4x as much work as your average pitcher.

2014 You get it! THanks for helping.

I love Lee's ability andwanting to be a Tiger. It is really tough being a SEC starting QB without splitting time with baseball. And if baseball is his true love (I'm not sure which sport is) then why would he give up part of that season to play football?

Jesus, you state honesty on this board and they come at you because the truth hurts.

It will be very very tough. Elway was a position player with a monster arm! He was not a pitcher only and therefore jsut got by on his strong arm when needed. His ERA shows that all he had was the heat.

I want him to play football and be our starter ASAP if he is that good. If he does though, I feel it will hurt his baseball performance overall and jeapordize his pro potential big time.

But if he misses football time to be full time baseball, I feel he would struggle to be the starting qb and therefore be a waste of our football programs time instead of concentrating on someone else.

Only Lee knows what he wants for sure and what his love in life is. He may still be figuring it out, he is only 17 or 18.

Wouldn't be shocked if he gets his thoughts turned and signs on the MLB line for a couple mil.

SO to me, it is a waste of his and our time for him to try both BECAUSE OF THE POSITIONS HE PLAYS IN BOTH.

Are you kidding me!! there have been a number of players who have played and excelled at both sports which totally destroys all of your arguments. It's even easier for a pitcher (as opposed to position players) as pitchers primarily just need to keep up their bull pen work on the days they are not pitching or in the off season (i.e, during football season).

John Elway played QB at Stanford and outfield on the baseball team and also pitched!! I think he did pretty well.

If we get him to campus he will be on scholarship for football. He will redshirt in football, unless something drastic happens. For baseball he will probably get a good amount of PT. IMO, I think after his freshman year LM and PM need to sit down with him and discuss what HE wants to do. I know he's very good at both sports, but being a pitcher and QB will wear you down mentally and physically. Another thing, during the summer the baseball players go play in summer leagues and the football players work out and that's the time they spend learning the playbook, QBs and WRs get timing down etc... I think it's in his best interest to get a feel his first year and after that pick one and go with it.
