What's the latest word on Louisiana's TE Standish Dobard from LSU's end?

He visited Auburn today.

quote:

"I got to come check out practice, and see the coaches," said Dobard. "Coach Trooper is great. I love him and Gene Chizik."

quote:

"Everyone is even," he said. "I don't have a leader right now. I just want to check out each school and then see. I really don't even have a top group or anything."

quote:

"LSU being close to home doesn't matter. I actually grew up liking Miami for no real reason. I just liked them," said Dobard. "I visited LSU two weeks ago just to watch practice, but it wasn't a big deal."

He's going to keep enjoy schools like Auburn until he sees what happens with DeSean Smith. I think Dobard wants to be THE TE wherever he commits.

Says he wants to go out of state, but I think that is just a play for him

We're in it more than was earlier thought. Still will be a battle with Smith looking more and more like a Tiger every day and Heurman maybe getting into the class before him because he'll commit first. Of course that was 2-3 weeks ago so who knows now.

He was leaning oos but visited during spring practice and said it opened his eyes to lsu. I'll be surprised if we land him though

If DeSean Smith commits to LSU he's headed elsewhere IMO. Smith would start from day 1 here, we literally have zero pass catching threats at TE.

...wouldn't surprise me if both guys commit elsewhere though. We have rarely thrown to TE's...but maybe that's because we rarely have had a good one. The last good TE we had was Richard Dickson. His little brother hasn't impressed yet.

The reports of our TEs having drop problems isn't encouraging for our TE recruiting

I think that is more helpful actually. It shows we really need someone at TE to catch the ball. We throw to them, they just can't catch it

It could be good and bad for LSU tight end recruiting, IMO...

1) On one hand, it makes them wonder if they'd get the proper coaching at LSU, and if they'd ever get the ball...

2) On the other hand, it could make them want to go there to prove that they're able of playing tight end and starting right away...

I would think it would make a top guy WANT to come here because it shows he has an easy path to the top

also, this just once again makes me wonder why Steve Ensminger is on our staff though if none of our TEs can catch and also if he can't recruit a good one to come here.

Not to mention Adam Henry has coached TEs before as well.

It's the BBQ sauce man, no one can figure it out

Is Auburn even going to be competitive on the field this year? Yeah, your coaching staff is just amazing.

I just don't find the need to be as underhanded about it. You question our TE coaching, and I question your entire staff's coaching, especially now without Gus. But continue to tell us about how awesome y'all are going to be next year, it's so believable.

I'm not being underhanded about anything. LSUTool, and many other LSU fans, see a problem with the the TE position because they've been dropping a lot of practices in practice. They also think it could hurt recruiting, which is why I said what I said. It can be good and bad for recruiting.

Your own fanbase questions the TE coaching. I don't have a clue who the LSU TE coach even is, and I am not really worried about it. Maybe LSU just has a below average group at TE, I don't know.

and I question your entire staff's coaching

Good for you. Some have a National Championship ring from 2010 so I bet they really care what you think about them.

especially now without Gus.

Wait, you guys need to make your mind up.

When he was hired, he was just smoke and mirrors, and his High School offense wouldn't work in the SEC. In 2010, he was the reason we won the NC. He was a genius. In 2011, he was the reason our offense was so bad (and the pace made our defense worse). That High School offense "got figured out", and so on. I'm just relaying what I've read from posters like you, so...make your mind up. TIA.

I don't believe I've been telling people about how "awesome" we'll be next year, but nice try. I said we'd win 9-10 games, which is very possible. It all depends on the QB position.

Those quotes are yet another example of why I take what recruits say with a huge grain of salt. Those comments are almost a complete contradiction(mainly the LSU part) to what he said when he visited LSU a couple of weeks ago. Do these kids realize that everyone sees everything they say publicly? It's like they think because it's an Auburn(just an example in this case) writer or insider that the guy hasn't seen what he said a couple of weeks ago. It's crazy.

As I alluded to in my earlier post, it may not matter if he wants to leave the state or not. I think we'll land Smith pretty comfortably and we may land Heuerman as well. In that case Dobard has no spot. We're not going to turn down either Heuerman or Smith. Doesn't mean I don't want Dobard or that he's not a really good prospect. It just means we're in good shape at the position in this class and that all 3 guys are too close to take one over the others. Smith is the caveat because he has a completely different skillset than the other 2. He's the guy that could be at TE what Peterson was supposed to be.

Watch Miami with Dobard. They're on him pretty hard. Of course the NCAA could have some say in exactly how their class turns out.

I don't need to break down your post individually. I actually felt that the only reason you were even decent last year was due to Gus. Instead of making these broad sweeping generalizations based on what you choose to remember from this board doesn't make it gospel for an entire fanbase.

And y'all will be terrible again next season.

Rank these in order of talent, IYO. I haven't had time to really look up what the weaknesses and strengths of all are. Also, aside from Miami, who else really heavily recruiting Dobard?

You didn't watch much of Auburn's offense then, did you? We looked terrible in a lot more games than not. We were shutdown against LSU, Bama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, etc.

It was said many times. Sorry, not sorry.
