Not to mention it has a good track record of developing talent

Doesn't get any better than UF's recruting base. FSU and Miami are down, so they get the best players from Florida. They also recruit well in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. They have the SEC east on lock down.

i to am from Louisiana born an raised but to compare baton rouge to Gainesville is like comparing apples to oranges. BAton rouge is metro and gets all the typical things that come along with it: crime, traffic not so great parts of town while gainesville may have the occassional bad part of town its just not fare to compare the two cities. BAton rouge has new orleans while gainesville has tampa and orlando both schools have plenty of girls and NFL talent so i don't think that is a factor. A UF degree will hold more prominance nationwide than LSU though so that may help as well. Big factor also has to be head coaches: meyer great!! Miles not so much.
Just trying to help answer the question

I'd say the same thing that's so enticing about Southern Cal. We're a coastal school, with tons of money and support from alumni. We have a pretty good track record of putting players in the NFL, a great HC, National prestige. Beaches in every which direction, women, etc.

Nevetheless, Gainesville sucks.
It sucks truly and mightily, and those beaches are not all that close.

This is true. I could go to almost any college in Florida except UF. I've always loved the Gators, but I could never go there. Gainesville might one of the most boring towns in the SEC.

I don't think anyone is saying Baton Rouge is better. I went to BR for the game last year, and I really didn't think it was that bad. There are two completely different parts of Baton Rouge. I happened to go to the area where a lot of the wealthier people live so maybe that's why I think it's ok

Just about all of south Baton Rouge is pretty bad especially anywhere around I-110. Certain Parts of Central is getting bad too. Then over around I-12 around Sherwood Forest.

I-110 corridor is NOT South BR. It's just not.

My parents had friends that lived on Highland Road. Tons of mansions so I thought it was pretty nice

I have some friends at UF. I think I'll take my chances and stick with Miami though.

20 Gators drafted by the NFL since Meyer became HC.

They get to play against LSU every year and can go see Mickey Mouse often.
Honestly, considering the hunting, fishing, food; I don't get it either. Guess kids just aren't much into that stuff.

I think Florida is the "it" program right now. Just like USC was for the past 4-5 years. The amount of exposure that the SEC and especially florida has gotten with its success, Tebow, Harvin and other electric playmakers...kids want to be apart of that success
Combine that with a chill town, good weather, hot coeds, and a decent party scene and it makes for a pretty good place to live.
