That list is retarded
Nothing can be completely objective, but the Places Rated Almanac is the most credible out there and factors in air, crime, schools, culture, climate, traffic, entertainment (including restaurants and bars), taxes, the political community, child mortality, infastructure (incl highway/road Safety and deaths), cancer/health issues, etc, etc. This list was before Katrina too. Baton Rouge and LA are much lower on objective lists now. Alabama communities are generally middle of the road, with areas in New England, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon, Washington, etc at the top....but LA communities are of comparatively very poor quality. Anyone knows that LA and MS are 49th and 50th in virtually everything ranked from good to bad. I have 2 kids at LSU and 1 at Auburn right now. Any objective person, and I am objective, would rather live, work, drive and educate/raise kids in Auburn vs Baton Rouge. It isn't too far from Atlanta either. I certainly don't think you are retarded and you do a good job on this site, but Auburn is a great place and really beyond comparison with anything in South LA. The people of South LA, like most places, are almost all great people though. LSU sports brings out many good people too and has great tradition....its hard to top a baseball nat'l championship last year and 2 football nat'l championships in the last 6 years. Auburn was undefeated in 2004, but ended up ranked 2nd after not getting into the big game.

Please tell me the "disadvantages" or "weaknesses" about Auburn.
There aren't any weaknesses in Auburn compared to other places. Some folks crave big city life...they can live in Chicago or Atlanta or NY or Los Angeles, etc. Auburn isn't far from Atlanta, so you can get big city. By itself, Auburn isn't really large enough to make the Places Rated listings and some folks in BAton Rouge think there isn't much to do there, but there is plenty. plus it is a college town and very clean. Cities like Baton Rouge are not college towns.

You should like a grandfather...how would any of that be appealing to a college student?

Then what makes a college town. Does it have to be in the middle of nowhere?

What kind of comment is that? Is USC not in a college town because it is in a big city? BC? Ohio State? Texas? Jesus, what a dumb fricking comment.

I think Baton Rouge is a good college town despite being the state's capitol. The capitol/downtown is where the idiots do business.
The fact that there are more restaurants and bars is the only difference I see between Baton Rouge and Auburn as far as "shite to do". Because when you really look at it, there's all the same "shite to do" at Auburn as there is in Baton Rouge. That was my original point when responding to The Hidden Flask's comments about strengths and weaknesses. Couple that with the fact that it's prettier, cleaner, less congested, and the entire "city" of Auburn is based around the university, I think you got something pretty damn cool. The only objective thing Auburn doesn't have that LSU does have is as stated before - 2 crystal balls
, a casino, and the number of bars and restaurants. High rises, traffic, and interstate systems, I would think, for me would be considered a "negative" when referring to a college town and general atmosphere. If you want high rises, Atlanta is 1hr15 minutes away, the same distance basically from Baton Rouge to N.O.
I do like Walk-ons though.

Either way its not like there's 4 bars... there's Skybar, The Vault (formerly Bodega), Bourbon Street, Quixotes, 17-16, Speakeasy, The Duck at the Olde Ale House then away from downtown there's flip flops, the tavern, supper club, the independent, and a bunch of others...
Also, I personally love our bar setup. Most of our bars are really big and going downtown is fun because you see tons of people you know rather than a bunch of townies like in Athens...

I graduated from LSU and I now live in Montgomery, due to the fact that my wife is from here and owns her own business. You people who say that Auburn is in the middle of nowhere have definitely never been to the city of Auburn. It's a nice city with a decent looking university. Opelika and Auburn are very close together and the two cities combined definitely doesn't fit the definitions of small and nowhere. The city of Auburn has quite a bit of charm plus it is very near the state of Georgia. If I had to choose to live anywhere else in Alabama besides Montgomery, it would be Auburn. If it wasn't for my wife, I would definitely choose to live in Auburn rather than here in Montgomery.

I know a good bit of the freshman do because of the lack of dorms... AUburn even suggests it and provides info about their trailer parks to students

It's a great rural college town. Probably second only to Starkville in this category.

Auburn fans. I like you all, for the most part. I have spent several years on the Auburn scout board, mostly OT board actually. A lot of you are funny. Lot of good fans. I like Auburn because of family connections and I liked to watch Bo Jackson. There's a lot of you who are snobs though. Bammer encounters and such, where you point out your superior vehicle and what year you graduated from Auburn when you are in a store with your son/daughter and are confronted with an Roll Tide or you suck when wearing your Auburn gear. I know that stuff is awful, that internet made up BS. Anyway, I went to the La Tech AU game last year with some Tech fans and an AU fan (who was born from a family of Hawg fans), and I noticed a ton of blue or orange sundresses. Is this part of the training to be an Auburn Woman in addition to the Creed?

slo flo...malzahn is one of the top oc's in the country right now. you have no idea what you are talking about. the nutt/mustain/malzahn thing was a fiasco...trust me....malzahn has gone on to produce superb numbers at tulsa (yes less talented defenses but then again what was his talent level on offense to work with) at any rate auburn had a top 20 if not higher offense last year and will only get better. having said that i hope chavis holds them to under 10 but the kool-aid you are drinking about malzahns offense my friend needs to go back in the cooler for awhile
