I was thinking about this recently. Les seemed to emphasize MW recruiting & was able to get Pocic from IL & Joe Barksdale from MI.
Why not make more of a run at some of those big farm kids?
To Miles credit, he would expand his OL recruiting footprint. I think O needs to revisit his OL strategy. LSU will always be able to get WR, CB, RB, Safeties, TE, LB as Louisiana produces enough in a 4 year cycle to get those positions. QB in Louisiana is starting to look up again and O to his credit with the LSU offense is getting QB's to come here.
OL tend to show up regularly but there are not enough OL in Louisiana each year, you need to start 5. On 247 position, there are:
1) 34 4-5 Star OT
2) 19 4-5 Star OG
3) 4 4-5 Star Centers
That is 57 for the entire country and none from Louisiana this year. My opinion, you go out of state and you are competing against the home state schools and every other major P5 team.
LSU needs to sign 4/5 OL every year. If you can get 2 4 start great, but sign 3 stars if you have to, redshirt them and develop and coach them. Go into the Midwest, Texas, Florida and sign some of those kids. If Louisiana has SEC caliber lineman, next year there seems to be 2 of them, one from Catholic HS in Baton Rouge and one from Neville in Monroe, you have to get those instate kids when they are in-state.
If you sign 18 or so over a 4 year cycle, you should be able to have a 2 deep that you can go to battle in the SEC if your strength and conditioning is working well (and it is) and your OL can coach them up (and I think Gregg does that).

Guy is wrong a lot...for an insider.
Recruiting 17 yr old kids has to be one of the most frustrating jobs in the world. You need to remember that they have schools pulling them six ways from Sunday. A lot of the kids will tell a recruiter what they want to hear.
I would surmise that vol is reporting what he knows at the time.

The nabers thing is interesting
I think nabers is a hell of a player.
I just don't know if they are going to be able to convince him

Looks like might happen, I am very happy for Nabers, Louisiana young man who bleeds purple and gold and a consensus Rivals/247 top 150 player. Getting a young man who loves LSU and is a damn talented football player.
Congrats to young Mr. Nabers

Mawae and Cregg interviewed for the job. Cregg got it. Mawae went to ASU.
