You make very good points in this thread.
In reference to Myles Garrett, I don't think his performance in my eyes was much of a result of OL struggling as it was his athleticism.
Kid was all over the field. Backside, chasing down backs from behind on play side, and making plays even on special teams.
Can't figure out why he would waste his college career at A&M, unless he's on the Hector plan. He'll end up going the Clowney route by the time A&M's offense wears him out.

OL is the one position group where someone can start making a somewhat legitimate claim that "stars don't matter".
As I posted in another thread - Chris Williams, out of Catholic High (BR) went to Vandy as a 2*. He couldn't have been a secret to LSU's recruiting team. All Conference and NFL offensive tackle.
Stars do not matter if you can play.
Stars do not matter if you cannot play.
All stars represent is a measure of the hype a particular player has received - whether or not warranted. It is better than no information, but like a stock tip - you better do your own due diligence before relying on such sources of information.

Who gives a sh*t? I could care less if he falls to #30. I'm done with "recruit rankings". It's all about how well they do at the next level. These recruiting sites are full of drama and want the attention because it makes them money

Yeah, Robinson is already #1 on 247s singular site..so he can't move up on 247's composite.
what?

apparently ESPN updates their rankings today as well, so we could see quite a bit of movement in the Composite rankings..... Brumfield jumped way up on ESPN apparently.

247 is updating their personal 247 rankings today, and Robinson is already #1, so there's nowhere to move up for him in the 247 composite ranking

How? Composite reflects off of the 247, ESPN, Rivals, and Scout.
When I made that post, 247 was the only one updating their ranking. Robinson was already #1 on 247's, so he wasn't going up.

I've been following it religiously for 5 years, but Jan 2nd broke me. I will still pay the $10 bucks to 247 because they write up good articles, but I'm backing off big time
Landon Collins did it for me. That recruitment taught me that all the services do is collect second hand information, or read far too deeply into what a recruit says. A friend of the family was a major highschool baseball prospect eventually drafted in the third round, and I can tell you that towards the end of the cycle most involved will just say yes to any question asked to get off the phone. The attention is relentless, and recruits/families all handle it differently. There's really no sense in trying to sift through it.
My approach has since then been to just look at the facts (visits, depth charts), and what a recruit does. Often times their actions will tell the tale, and it hasn't let me down any more than the insiders have. Same with rankings. Watch the film, not just the highlight reel, and you'll at least know who is on track to be a solid contributor.

You're missing the marketing perspective. Who's going to buy subscriptions when all the top recruits are committed? View the rankings...see top guys not committed...publish stories about them that require subscriber status. Simple

Would not be surprised at all. As stated here, the goal of these sites is to sell subscriptions. They pander to the sidewalk gumps and move commits around to stir up interest and business.
