Didn't Matthew Stafford get about $50 million guaranteed last year?

But for every Matt Stafford there are 50 highly regarded HS QBS who will never even smell an NFL roster.

Its a risk reward type thing...

Lee’s fastball has frequently been at 94-95 this spring.

this is key. If he throws 95 and pitches at 89 is a big difference in pitching at 94-95.

also, like a previous poster stated, his ERA does seem slighty high for an elite high school pitcher. it is spectacular, but i was kinda surprised it was that high when i read it. this could mean control problems. if he just pumps 90+mph fastballs down the plate and starts a slurve in the zone that will be hit hard at every level from this point on.

EDIT:155 NY Yankees Chad Jones LHP Left Left LSU 6' 3" 230

think he does both?

No doubt. Unless he really wants to be an ace pitcher and quarterback, at the same time, at a major college program.

Who was the last to do this? Wasn't there a guy for Stanford that did this a few years back?

I believe the starting QB from Clemson is also their star baseball player. Think I read recently where he was the only player to hit 15 HRs and 20 TDs in the same year.

The thing about Zach Lee is that there are very few scenarios where he can help out on the football field.

First of all we know we have to dodge the MLB draft in 2010.

Then, we'd most likely have only 3 years (one almost certainly being a redshirt) of him before the 2013 MLB draft. Will the coaching staff committ the early practice and playing time to him knowing that we'll likely only get one year of him as a semi-experienced guy?

Also, we know that he's also going to play baseball his freshman year. If he's throwing 94, he's going to play...and play a lot. That could affect his spring which doesn't bode well for a guy would would need to get a lot of early work to be worthwhile.

I like him as a QB. I think he was underrated watching his film. However, unless he's committed to playing 4 years (not 3), I just don't see how he helps the football team. I think he's close to worthless if he's going to only be on campus for 3 years.

Basically, the only scenario where it works out for the football team is if he turns out to not be as good a baseball prospect as a football prospect...and that determination would have to happen prior to the 2013 MLB draft. That would be tough for a guy who's throwing 94.

So, when you consider all of this, what are the chances that he ends up making an impact on the football team? 10%?

Good point from a Football standpoint, but from a baseball standpoint, it would be freaking awsome having one of, if not the best pitcher in college for 3 years.

But if you take your point into context of him attending college, teh question now is Why? Really not going to see the field in football WITH THIS STAFF! (Another variable) They will pressure him at some point, as they did with Chad Jones (made him stick to footbal during spring), to concentrate on his best sport and just play the other one when his best is complete.

If this is the case, I see no reason for him not to be talked out of risking injury in football. But kids are kids. He might just happen to be a great pitcher but his passion in life is football and LSU football only.

Look at Big Baby, Jimbo Fisher/Saban/Everybody else thought he was the best high school linemen they had ever seen, especially with his tremendous feet/speed. His passion was basketball and we all know the story from there.
