Interesting trend:

2020 #1 Bryce (back up when they won a natty - never won one as starter) #2 DJ U (multiple transfers - bust) #3 CJ Stroud (no nattys)

2021 #1 Ewers, #2 Caleb Williams, #3 Sam Huard (no nattys - all transferred before success - huard has been hurt)

2022 #1 Drew Allar (key starter in playoff but good qb or cupcake schedule?), #2Cade klubinekc and #3 Connor Wegmann, (both have been benched mid game for poor performances and starting role highly questioned - wegmann to portal)

2023 #1 arch (back up to portal transfer), #2 Nico I (key starter - in playoff), #3 Dante Moore (already transferred) #4 Jackson Arnold (has been benched for poor performance - hit the portal) and #5 Malachi Nelson (back up to portal transfer)

-for big programs needing a qb seems like going for proven commodities in portal or developing your 4 star is much safer bet than paying some more than an nfl rookie contract whose never played a down of college football, - I guess if you have endless cash it doesn't matter - but the 5star signee is no guaranteed natty

The best college QBs this year

Cam Ward - transfer, 0 star out of high school, only 1 offer to FCS Incarnate Word
Shedeur Sanders - transfer, 3 star, #37 QB in his class
Kyle McCord - transfer, 4 star #6 QB in his class
Jaxson Dart - transfer, 4 star, #10 QB in his class
Dillon Gabriel - transfer, 3 star, #27 QB in his class

If you are considering Bryce Young and CJ Stroud as disappointments because they didn’t win titles as a starter, your standards are way too high.

or Caleb Williams. That's 2 #1 overall picks and a #2 overall pick and 2 Heisman trophies

Looks like the recruiting services could be doing a better job of evaluating QB talent.

That’s fair they definitely put their programs in position to win one - just saying paying a #1 or #2 or even top 5 qb BIG$$$ doesn’t guarantee a natty - in this new era I would say to pay someone more money than an nfl rookie contract means I am looking for a guaranteed return - but by historic data - nothing is guaranteed and these guys really are over priced to a degree

It's becoming pretty obvious that there is more value in portal quarterbacks, then there is in a high school recruit.

Nuss is a very rare QB that was willing to wait 3 years for an opportunity.

Fully agree - that just makes no sense and glad the staff went another direction as painful as it was timing wise

Which could tell you that he had no value to other teams

I wouldn't say there's more value, the rate at which blue chip QBs (4 and 5 star players) transfer is just at like 80% now. QBs don't wait around like Nuss for their opportunity to play. That doesn't, in and of itself, mean transfer QBs are more valuable. It just means that keeping a good QB on your roster who doesn't play early is difficult.

Nuss very easily could have transferred had he wanted to.
