Scout has 26 top 100 players still uncommitted and we really aren't mentioned much with any of them?! I don't get it!! How can we not be a option?!?! Unless you guys think we have a legitimate shot at some?

Contrary to popular belief, not everybody wants to play at LSU. A corollary: LSU doesn't want every player.

Just wondering if their rankings are off. I don't follow recruiting like you guys but how do you not put your name out with them instead of offering the 90th ranked OLB-Duke Riley- when we're deep with young talent at LB and have several great options at that position next year.
what are we going to be 5 deep at three LB positions?

An LSU offer is still one of the top 5 offers in the country

Obviously.

Because recruiting is about building relationships with these kids over a year or two. These coaches are like second (sometimes first) fathers. You can't jump on these kids from 1000 miles away a month before signing day and expect them to give you serious consideration.

I think the coaching stuff understands their depth chart needs very well, and the prospects they're going after next year.

Well you now have received the comments of some of the ignorant people on this site, but just remember it is a free site.

I am sure they have been experienced a very cold childhood. They are what I call "key board warriors" which means they would not make these comments face to face.

pray for the young men who just lost their lives in Afg.

I think the comment is legitimate...need to rename the Recruiting Board the one up board b/c thats all y'all seem to be doing lately...trying to 1 up each others' "witty" comment with another..its pretty exhausting to get through to get actual information!

Yeah, agreed, but some people aren't all that witty, but they think they are (shhhh, don't tell)

As for the OP, I agree with you (rankings aside and our current commits aside) I would think (and like) that we would/ should be after more of them than we are (cause we are in on a few).

It doesn't mean the sky is falling (I know you were not saying that) just with common sense you would think that a top tier program would be after (and in on) some of the top talent.

So no one actually tried to answer you question, but I will try....

1) LA is loaded with talent every year. Then factor in that we pull a bunch from Texas (most years) and that fills a lot of the spots and needs.

2) We go after certain needs OOS and try to target in on these guys and get their commitment (therefore filling more spots) - this is just a "style" that we employ, other than just blanketing offers to people.

3) Lastly, I think we would rather know we have a need/ spot filled with someone the staff has evaluated, then have an offer out there with someone you are not sure you will get in the end anyway. (This like a 2 for 1 thing and again a recruiting style the staff uses.)

Hope this helps, just my opinion.
