Thoughts on the late recruiting push???

Its really frustrating that we are all of the sudden getting a huge increase in interest from top national recruits when we have 22 commits and are short on space and very close to signing day.
I wonder if Miles and Co didn't expect this late surge of interest or if they may have hesitated of slow played a few of our current commits considering the wealth of talent that we are trying to reel in now.
So, are we actually going to have to pass on a top national recruit or does it look like the staff can work it out if we do get commits from 4 or 5 of the following....
Hill
Collins
Phillips
Howard
Edwards
Alexander
Diggs
.............or others

You will see them take the schollies in state a lot slower next year to recruit more nationally...
There are quite a few greyshirts possibilities in this class IMO

LC-wait till tomorrow night
Edwards-when he visits late January best chance
Howard-has said if LSU blows him out of the water on his OV he will committ
Alexander-With Phillips coming can you take another lb even though word is Granier is leaving
Diggs-not likely
Hill-he's coming
my questions is are we for sure losing Davante

What everyone is not remembering is that we are at 22 officially. Maybe Hill and Phillips don't come. Maybe Phillips hasn't committed for a reason and is just telling everyone he's going to.
But it's really not that tricky. We have 22 players committed and are in serious contention for 7: Edwards, Howard, Collins, Hill, Phillips, Alexander, Diggs.
Let's say we go crazy and get 5. That would put us at 27. Borque is for sure a guy you tell to leave. Say we didn't like him visiting other schools. Then you only need one player to grey shirt, either the long snapper or sandolph.

You should be more than happy with late pushes.
At this time last year, we had almost conceded that this years class would be a very lackluster and "filler" class.
BTW, this happens every year in recruiting. The football season is over and reporters are out in full force adn these kids have much more free time to answer questions. Happens every year.

Seems like we always over-do it with the 3 star guys based on some early season insecurities. We should just realize we are a national power now and the 5 stars need to have room at the Inn.

Meh, if a 5 star wants on at the end, they will find room.

I hope we can land maybe even just 1 of Howard, Alexander, or Edwards but to think we get all of them or have a legit chance is just Crimson Tidish of you.

quote:That's silly. The recruiting sites have admitted that nationally they have a propensity to not cover Louisiana well. Because of that some guys are not rated properly to the talent. I mean do you have a problem with some of the 3 star guys that are playing now for the Tigers? I would much rather the coaches evaluate a player and offer they feel can play in the SEC as opposed to some hack stating “He is built like a truck” so he should be a 4 star.

I somewhat agree with this......somewhat not. Miles and Co are no doubt excellent at recognizing elite talent that has not been evaluated as such. At the same time, I would hate to pass up a star national recruit which not only gives us a great player, but also gives LSU more nationwide recruiting prestige, simply to keep a lower quality "project".
We always seem to get some interest late in the game. I think its worse this year due to the Natl Champ 13-0 run. After 2008 and 2009, recruits may have been a bit wary, but our success last year, this year, and surely the next few, should blow up the LSU recruiting for years to come. Having QB's like Mett, Randle, and Kiel will also get us back to the days with WR's like Doucet, Bowe, Lafell, Henderson, Clayton, Green, etc

agree. I'm gonna be really pissed if we all the sudden get a bunch of 5 star commits. I mean where were these guys all year, picking their nose?

Might as well add CB Brian Poole to the list. Avery has been in his ear to visit, too.
It's just that adding yet another name increases the frustration considering the limited spots available.

Sarcasm is humorous, but ignorance is annoying. No one said they would be pissed......but with 22 commits, we are a bit tight on space to suddenly have 8 or 9 highly rated recruits decide that they want to be Tigers.

I think its a compliment to the program for this. Let's not forget that we were in the Cotton Bowl last year, fresh off a Cap One bowl the year before. Sit back and enjoy the late recruiting push and our rise back to the top. If we manage to grab a few of these guys with this late push, the staff will find room.

I think Ferguson(the long snapper) is a mid term enrollee so it's doubtful he gets left out but who knows if he is actually a schollie kid anyway. At this point it's just assumed that he is going on scholarship but it's not concrete.
Granier just had an article out yesterday talking about his visit on the 20th and saying he's 100% healthy.(says he's running track to get in shape) Doesn't sound like a kid that's not coming in.Pure speculation with the greyshirt talk. Of course the staff could still ask him to and he's a lifelong Tiger so he'd probably accept it but if he's greyshirting he doesn't seem to know it yet.
We'll make the room as we always do. Grade casulties,Bourque leaving and maybe a greyshirt. Truth is we aren't getting all these kids and I'd be suprised if we landed more than 2 of the kids not named Phillips,Hill or Collins. It's very likely we could only land 1 of the other kids(Edwards,Diggs,Howard,Poole,Alexander and whoever else gets mentioned in the next month)
We have to remember that January is the biggest month for bs rumors and speculation. Most of this stuff now and in the next month will amount to nothing. We'll know more when visits start and coaches start visiting kids today thru Saturday and Jan 13-28.

quote:i know right? It's like the other day when I was walking around with my pockets full of gold coins. Sounds great right? Well APPARENTLY gold weighs a helluva lot more than regular coins and it ended up tearing the stitching in my pockets. I didn't lose any of my gold coins but still i have to take my pants to the cleaners to get the pockets fixed. Frustrating.

This is the big question in my mind - assuming Granier is leaving, effectively Phillips is taking his spot - hearing rumors that LSU is the slight leader for Edwards, we definitely take Edwards, Howard or both, if they commit.
I agree that Hill is coming, but I think that means Bourque (unfortunately) goes elsewhere. So, that's a wash, as well.
So LC (+1), Edwards (+1), Howard (+1), if Granier, for example, grayshirts, and rolls into next year (assuming he comes back from knee surgery) or for whatever reason doesn't get into this class, Phillips will be a (0), if Bourque decommits because of Hill, Hill will be a (0) and that does leave 1 under 25 for Kwon Alexander (or maybe another running back or dual threat - Liggins or Alford).
I guess your point is valid - should we retain Granier AND Bourque, do we take both Phillips AND Kwon Alexander. I think Phillips is an outstanding player - this is a rare exception tin that I would take the OOS kid, Kwon Alexander.
ETA: And to be fair, I have no idea how 25 fully qualified impacts the 85 - I know we have just a few juniors, so we either hit the 85 hard this year or next - pick your poison.

Yeah, it's like last week - I took my 1956 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith to the shop and there were a couple of minor things wrong with it (the car's almost 60, with 475k miles on her), and the guy says, "I can't just ring up somebody to order parts for this thing - they were all handmade and heavily customized for the end user. Some of the stuff I have to have fabricated and I can't just turn around and have the car back to you in 2 or 3 days. Why do we have to have this discussion every 3 months?"
So, now I have to drive the wife's Porsche Carrera back and forth to the bank for a couple of weeks.
