You almost have to look at it from an investment mindset.

HS prospects, even the most promising prospects, still come with a degree of risk they won't live up to that promise in college. You THINK they will be really good, but there is no actual data from them playing in a college game to establish that. 2nd, 3rd, 4th year transfers generally have a more proven track record of success because they actually done it in college. At some point the market hits a tipping point where if the cost of a HS prospect equals or exceeds the cost of a proven college player the investor may decide to invest his/her money in what is perceived as the option with less risk....the 2nd, 3rd, 4th year transfer.

No one has figured out the exact "right way" to do things in what is a very new marketplace. However, you may start to see things get to the point the NFL got to about a decade ago. Owners were tired of being leveraged into paying high draft picks massive salaries (often making them some of the highest paid guys on the team) with no proven record of production at the NFL level. They wanted (and the players agreed) to make available more of their money to pay proven pros instead of having to spend it on unproven prospects. That may be the approach the donors/booster start to take in future years.

Well said.

At some point, these morons that keep putting up money for high school kids that have no idea how to handle it will see that these investments will rarely work out.

Look at Ohio St. look at A&M. All the money invested in their programs and what do that have to show for it?

A&M collapsed.

Ohio State still can’t beat Michigan.

The only one that these investments have worked for seems to be Texas and Oregon. And what happens when either/or doesn’t win anything?

Your investment of MILLIONS was for not.

Didn’t BK say we needed to build through highschool recruiting?

He did, but the way a handful of schools are throwing money at top recruits, there isn’t much you can do. It would be great to get them in and brought up in the system, but if you can’t pay the big money, you just have to hope for the best in the portal.

It sucks, but until I’m one of the people putting up money, I try not to complain.

I feel like it’s eventually going to be the same 5-6 schools winning the title every year bc none of the others will be able to compete.
