Well not the reason but one of the many that I can think of. It's just amazing how Texas just does things so much better than most states. I ran across this article and it just was the icing on the cake to show me how far behind the times Louisiana is. I love Louisiana but my gosh they can't compete with Texas when it comes to resources, salaries, money, facilities, potential of success, etc. Okay that's my rant.

Texas was one of the selling points Shows had when lobbying for the field turf at WM. At the time WM was the first school to get it in LA, including colleges. The only other place was the Superdome at the time. Now there are a lot of schools with turf at all levels. Then again, I think we're a long way away from the facilities you see for Cy-Ridge/Falls etc.

Louisiana schools have a lot more to worry about than sporting facilities.

You're right about that Slinger. Like maybe having a better education program? Yeah Texas is also far superior to what we have in Louisiana as well.

Exactly. I doubt that Texas is perfect, but La is on a different level.

Oh your right not perfect but one of the bests. The reason education in La sucks and has for decades is because we let it get that way by not being active and electing complete unqualified jackasses represent us.

No it isn't. The main reason is because we fail to pay property taxes for our local schools and depend on the state for about 90 percent of our funding for local schools. If we did away with the homestead exemption for education purposes only, you would see better schools in our state.

The state funds 90 percent because of state income tax which Texas doesn't have. Lived in both and preferred Texas's setup much better. No state income tax and no tax at the grocery store, but HIGH property taxes. Lived in an apartment so didn't have to worry about property taxes. Louisiana-low property taxes, but a state income tax as well as taxes on everything else they can possibly tax.

The football stadium other than the scoreboard doesn't look all that impressive. The natatorium on the other hand looks like it could belong to a university.

The amount of rent you paid was a reflection of the property taxes for the school district you lived in. . .but your point is valid.

This generalized "I want to coach, live, work, etc. in Texas" is no more accurate than the "Louisiana education system" meme is. There are exemplary examples of systems/people doing great things in both states. By that same token, every school district does not look at these stadiums as sources of pride. Particularly when you consider that "Robin Hood" laws in Texas help to keep some of the districts with these stadiums going. . .also the class sizes in many of these districts are appalling but understandable when you consider that the best way to save money is to not hire teachers.

Second, consider that you would most likely only coach in these facilities. So, while your Thursday, Friday, or Saturday (morning or afternoon) may be in style, the level of facilities at your own school may not be that impressive.

Meh, paid 950 for a 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment in a gated community with pool/jacuzzi/gym membership to a place the size of Dillards. Not really marked up imo.

Texas does two things that allow them to have such great facilities:
1. They build the best facility and then they raise property tax in the county to pay for the new cost. No politics. Everybody pays.
2. They build only one mega high school in a city until the population gets ridiculous. You can have 2-6 thousand students in high school. In most county's, they resist to build the second high school because it will dilute the football talent.

That's what I always tell people when they say WM is too big. It's around 2,000-2,200 every year.

And that's why it's the size it is and why it will remain the size it is right now.

Not to take this off topic but the rent you paid in Texas in part included the landlords property tax expense. Just wanted to throw that in.

Yeah I know, I'm just saying the price wasn't out of place. If it was 1400 a month for the same apartment I could see it really effecting me. I take that number from the houses we were looking at while there. It was $4,500-6,000 a year for property taxes for the houses we were looking at buying.

that will come in quite nicely for recruiting high school kids.

That swimming facility is especially ridiculous; the football field doesn't impress me as much; I've seen a couple about like that at home in Iowa in my day.

as long as you're in one of the rich, independent school districts, where they can spend that big tax base however they like.

the key words are

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS!

We can't have em because unconstitutional so we get to destroy our public school systems in the cities, New Orleans, Baton Rouge etc.. while in TX each neighborhood is its own district. The money stays right at home.
