"But if “The Freak” sticks with the Tigers, he will bring great strength to LSU’s defensive interior after doing 28 bench press reps as a junior in high school.

To put that in perspective, only 15 out of 50 participating defensive linemen at the 2010 NFL combine did more reps. And these are former college players who are the best of the best and are preparing for the NFL."

TigerRag

His nickname says it all.

I'm calling BS on those numbers. I'm pretty sure the amount used for high school bench reps is 185 as opposed to the 225 used in college. The article probably heard about the number of reps he did and just assumed it was with the NFL amount.

He's still strong as an ox and no doubt is a freak but if those are NFL numbers then that would probably put him easily top 10 on our team as a junior in high school.

There is no way it is 185. There are punters in high school that bench press that 20 times.

bench in high school is 185. Unless they made a special exception for the freak.

ETA- I played basketball against him 3 years ago when we were both freshman. He was incredibly strong and quick in the post. And he is a really cool guy. He wasn't cocky at all back then and was very respectable.

The one rep max calculator I have corresponds 20 reps of 185 to a one-rep max of 390 so no there aren't a lot of punters in high school who can do that 20 times.

At west Monroe 225 is used. We had a sophomore rep 18 x and a freshman rep 15 x. Although 28 is very impressive, I don't think is unheard of.

No more strange than being able to grow a Kimbo Slice caliber beard at 15.

28 reps of 225 would put him right outside the 'top performers' for DL in the NFL combine.

it is between 185 and 225 smaller players rep max at 185 and stronger players rep max at 225.

At WM they max starting at their lowest interval of 25lbs ( 150 175 200 225) once they can get 6 reps at each weight they move to the next weight.

Once they get to 225 they do it NFL style. I think Luke Sanders holds the record at WM being 26 reps.

I dont think he looks mean at all in that pic. Actually seems to have "kind eyes" (not gay)...as opposed to thuggish/ignorant.
