What happened to their 9-10 commit weekend?
Was never supposed to be a 9-10 commit weekend. The coaches said their goal was 9-10 by the end of the month.

The offers i've seen
Orlando Thomas ATH assuming DB-good bet to commit
Cayleb Jones WR-good bet eventually but may take a look at Miami and Auburn
Jonathon Gray Rb-good bet but may take a while
Kennedy Estelle OT-definite commit
Thomas Johnson WR-good bet to commit
Hassan Ridgeway DE-definite commit
Curtis Riser OG
Dominique Wheeler WR/Ath-good bet to commit
Alex De La Torre LB-commit
Alex Norman DT-commit
I would guess after the kids leave and talk to the sites that they'll have 6-8 commits.Could be more if the big guys Johnson,Gray and Jones commit.
Atari is correct in that the 9-10 was after both Jr days. The 2nd is the weekend of the 26th.If they hand out a few more offers next time i'd imagine they'll beat the total of 10.Most kids that get that offer jump on it pretty quickly.

Austin American Statesman
The Texas 24/7 writer telis the truth in the 1st part of this article but then makes up the strange excuse of blaming it on the 2012 recruting class:

Is he talking about Texas recruts or is this supposed to be a nationl trend?

(The truth is bolded, the bull shite is italicized)
quote:
Recruiting expert Gerry Hamilton of 247Sports and Hookem.com, the American-Statesman's Internet partner, said the relatively small junior day haul for the Longhorns can be attributed to several things: last year's 5-7 record, the influx of new faces on the coaching staff and an overall tendency of the 2012 class to be more deliberate in committing.
quote:
"The landscape's a little different this year," Hamilton said. "In the past, everything was positive for Texas and they were riding a huge wave of momentum.
quote:
"This is the first time they haven't ridden the wave of momentum. They'll have to build the momentum."
quote:
Hamilton said that seems to be a typical approach for many of 2012's top recruits.
"It's a different class of kids," he said. "They're looking around a little more. Many of them will make later decisions. Later for Texas means March or April."
Is he talking about Texas recruts or is this supposed to be a nationl trend?

All this talk of Texas "re-directing" for a little more OOS talent is nonsense. There's just no reason to, and the risk of alienating Texas HS coaches and players is far too great. I just think Mack and the new staff are trying to be more patient this year after getting burned on a few highly touted early commits.
Then explain offering D.J. Humphries, Andrus Peat, and John Theus.

I doubt you guys get any of those guys.
Humphries- LSU or Carolina teams
Peat- Not sure
Theus- Georgia lock

Not saying we'll get them either. I still think it's a mistake to shift focus from the normal recruiting strategy.
But Stacy Searles is recruiting them, he came from Georgia. So the new DC is from Mississippi State, the Offensive Line coach is from Georgia. They know the southeastern part of the country and seem to think they can do some work there.
Getting Peat out of Arizona won't be impossible either it's not like ASU or UA have that border locked down. Unless he's looking out west (USC, UCLA, Stanford), Texas has a pretty good track record recruiting in Arizona.

And now we've gone and offered Dorial Green-Beckham. Yep, sure looks like the OOS recruiting was nonsense to me.
Texas Offers Nation’s Top Wideout Dorial Green-Beckham
Again, not saying we'll get any of them. But it does look like the program is looking outside of the state border a lot more than normal to me.

Yup, but that's different than years past. We used to be a lot more stingy(not sure that's the right word, but whatever) with our scholarship offers.

Probably because of all the new coaches who know Mack is a dumb arse.

Nope, didn't offer. But I wouldn't call it idiotic, the guy wasn't gonna come to Texas (or leave his home state for that matter).
Texas in the past offered one maybe two out of state kids a year. It was just the philosophy of the coaching staff that they could get everything they needed in-state so why go elsewhere.
With the coaching turnover after last season, they've brought in coaches who are used to offering kids all over the country and that thought process seems to be taking hold.
If nothing else maybe we'll start seeing Texas hats in the 3 hat shuffle more often during the big signing day press conferences.

Not offering Trent Richardson was equally idiotic. Do think it's kinda funny all the texas fans jizzing themselves bc ut offered this kid

Likely more to do with trying to keep him away from Oklahoma with the DGB offer.Sure they'd take him(who wouldn't) but a nice consolation would be to do what they can to keep him from Oklahoma.
