Now I know I'm gonna get blasted for even asking this but how do you think Marshall compares to Dupre out of HS? Obviously opinion isn't very high of Dupre on the Rant now bc of his less than stellar college career but back in HS Dupre received nearly as much acclaim as Marshall LINK

The have similar physical profiles and rankings so do you think Marshall will have a better career than Dupre did and if so why?

We might actually have a QB to get the ball to him

Different ran offenses in high school for one thing. I always wondered why Malachi never reached his full potential

I’m not a Dupre basher.

Kid chose home when he could have gone anywhere and played hard and stayed out of trouble. All you can ask.

But Dupre, as impressive a physical specimen as he was, came from a completely different offensive system and basically had to learn to be an actual receiver in college.

Marshall is a legit weapon and he is locked and loaded to contribute immediately.

If Marshall has any strength at all he will be better than dupre. Dupre couldn't muscle the ball away from a sick kitten. And Marshall looks faster.

Marshall is better coming out of high school and looks better on film. He's lot the best reciever on the nation for nothing. He will be a stud and will hAve a better career at LSU than dupre. He just has more talent, and comes from a school that throws the ball all over the field, where malachi came from curtis, a midline veer offensive attack. He is much more prepared than dupre was at this point in their careers, and I think will be a better reciever.

I've seen Dupre in high school play in person. His pure atheletism allowed him to dominate at that level. He was never very physical, he could just outrun and outjump everybody around him with ease.

Marshall is a totally different animal. He has everything Dupre has and he is WAYYYYYYY more physical. His route running is phenomenal and he consistently can get separation. He also can take it to the house. Not elite speed like Dante Jackson, but right below that. IMO, he is more college ready than Dupre was.

Marshall is physical, Dupre was soft.

I think Dupre was an awesome talent coming out of HS...kid runs like a gazelle and could jump out of the gym. His toughness was not tested in HS and I think that is what he lacked to be in the elite category. He was a good receiver for us...but he couldn't seem to get good separation in college and it maybe have been an inability to get off the LOS.

Recruiting is a crapshoot...no guarantees Marshall will be a stud, but he has a lot of potential. It's hard to compare apples to oranges on highlight reels but I think Marshall has a little more Jarvis Landry in his game than Dupre did...

When I first saw Marshall’s film, Dupre was the first person I thought of. He looks like he could be what we thought Dupre was going to be. Definitely has the potential to be a star.

I think Dupre received his hype due to what he could be, not necessarily what he was at the time. Marshall is the real deal.

This is actually a really good thought. I think Marshall will be a little better prepared from watching his film, because he seems understand route running and small nuances from playing in a passing offense. Then again, it will be determined by his attitude and work ethic.

He played in an offense that rarely threw the ball and barely had a route tree in HS. Then did the same in the college.

Yeah I agree. The comparison isn’t a bad one by OP, because they do have obvious physical similarities.

And I’m not sure I’d even call Dupre soft coming out of high school. He actually run blocked a ton and was good at it. The physicality to battle for the ball is what was lacking in his game imo. Like another poster said, he just wasn’t really tested like that before college.

I do think that learning the nuance of the receiver position in college was tough on him. And the fact that he had pretty bad QB play on top of that certainly didn’t help. I mean, they certainly didn’t make anything easy for him.

I’d argue those three years of QB play were the worst we’ve seen, even worse than Lee/JJ which we all know how painful that was until 2011.

With the head start on the receiver position that Marahall already has, and with hopefully improved QB play to boot, the sky really is the limit for him.

Exactly and spot on!!Dupre had athletic ability but not physical ability. If he did he never used it at LSU. As a WR you have to go up an fight for the ball. I never saw that with him and feel that was why his career at LSU was mediocre.

I think Marshall ends up with the better career.

IMO Marshall has MUCH better hands. Athletically they're pretty similar.

Malachi had a great soph year at lsu and was well on his way. The QB lack of development really retarded his progress.

He’s a different WR then Marshall who is a little more versatile. There was no one to get Dupre the ball down field consistently.

MARSHALL is better after the catch; whereas, Dupre was more of a possession receiver.

I do think Marshall is better after the catch, but Dupre was not a possession receiver...at least not a great one. Dupre's strength is that could get vertical and would have been a hell of a deep threat except as Lester Earl mentioned we didn't have a QB that could get it to him...

Agree. Marshall high points the ball better and is more physical.
