He would be behind Lafell and Toliver this year, and when he was on the field, people would be asking "Where is Randle?"
Which is the same situation we would be in had Molten not blown out his knee and/or had rocks in his head.
As a redshirt Freshman Byrd would likely be more game ready now than Randle is, but the true benefit would be next year to go along with Randle and Toliver. We are an injury or a draft defection away from being really thin at WR in 2010.

Molton- Don't think they missed on him. He was supposed to contribute this season and got hurt so then transferred. Doesn't mean Miles was wrong in evaluating him.
Molton had some well known character question marks dating back years in Destrehan.

Here's part of the stupidity. We've averaged a top 5 class the past few years. You're retarded
There are two levels of successful recruiting.
1. Top players
2. Filling needs
- Passing on CM, DS, and Byrd
leave huge holes and inexperience
for those positions in 2010.
quote:
You know this how? Have you seen him play a lot in college? We picked up Chris Davenport, Josh Downs, and a 4 star Juco Defensive tackle. All were higher on our board than Sentimore due to concerns about him qualifying. I think we did ok.
Hicks = huge bust. You obviously aren't very in tune with what is really going on with our D-line.

As much as I'd like to have gotten CM, do you think any RBs would be committing to us this year if they had that in front of them on the depth chart? Something tells me we'll be just fine with the guys we have, and I can't imagine a scenario where having CM on the team would mean the dfifference between a win and a loss. So I'm gonna go ahead and say NOT a huge loss.
It's a loss. Next year - Murphy (coming off a season ending injury...), Michael Ford (who will have 0 game experience when we open with UNC), Spencer Ware (QB in high school, true freshman). And who else? Seastrunk is hardly a lock.
Now throw CM in there, a 5 star recruit with a year in the system. All of a sudden, that gives you a little security in the backfield for next year.
You can keep ignoring the issues. If we offered CM, he's here. If we recruit LaRon, he's here. Having both here now, learning the system, to be ready to go next year would have been huge.

People will start to realize what is happening when half of the LA players for 2011 with committable offers from LSU go out of state.
Dude, no
Anyway, how do we even know Byrd would play over Mitchell and Jackson?

This is true, but at the time, the coaches thought we were getting Benton as well, which I don't anyone will argue was a mistake over Byrd.

Change your subscription, tb is terrible.

Everyone knew Benton was questionable at best to get eligible. That is the reason given that we passed on Sentimore until the 11th hour.

So the fact that CM would have had 0 game experience next year is irrelevant, but the fact that Ford will have had no experience is?
Are you forgetting about Ridley?
Jesus fricking christ

Fluco, wake up. He wouldn't.
But he would be a 4 star, big time recruit with a year of the system under his belt going into next year.
We didn't need him for this year.
We needed him for next year and beyond.

Next Year:
RB - Ridley, Murphy, Ford, RS, Ware, Lache?
WR - TT, RR, Mike Davis, Justin Hunter, Reed?, plus the guys on the team that haven't played much. They have quality guys in front of them. It doesn't mean they suck.

3 freshman? Really?
Have you seen how much trouble RR is having?

And we thought we had Benton the whole time so it wouldn't be a problem. Recruiting doesn't always work out how the coaches planned, but it doesn't mean they have a bad plan.

No, they didn't.
They knew they could have had RR or Benton.
They chose RR.

Three true freshmen? Byrd would have been nice. I know hindsight is 20/20 but back when we passed on him I made several posts saying we missed the boat.

3 freshman? Really?
Way to leave out the 5 star senior and 5 star redshirt freshman who will be the #1 and #2. We would only be searching for a good #3.
Guys the three freshman won't be starters. Why is this so hard?

Fluco, you gotta admit that RB and WR depth chart is weak.
Posted on 9/18/09 at 9:10 am to flucobaseball
Yeah, a good #3....and #4, and #5 for all those 5 wide sets we run.
What happens when one of them gets hurt?
They depth is NOT there.
