Jefferson stood up and promised that team that he wouldnt let them down in the Chiken Bowl. He went and got the a win. How do you move an unproven player in front of him. Now, Shep can back up and play clean up duty.
But why with someone with game experience and understanding of the system be benched.

Check the DVR on that play and see a WR streaking on the seam uncovered.

Shep will run the option and throw occasionally. And I bet there will be some great trick plays with him and Jefferson on the field at the same time.

Yeah but in the end the kid wants to play QB and I think we could use him better but putting him in the slot and then doing as you say Trick plays and clean up. He is a special player and special kid. Needs to be in the game on every play.

Yes heard the Chikin Bowl story, very touching. Before that game he completed 41% of his passes. The book on Jefferson not complete. Shep will have specific plays for him drawn up for him. Things Jefferson just can't do.

I love the idea of have the most talent as possible on the field at one time, but we must remember that we have very experienced talent on the team already. Shep can come in and contribute immediately but is that best for the team and LSU's future. I am not the coach and will trust CLM, but we still have JJ, Scott, Williams, Murphy, Lafell, Holliday, and possibly Randle. And I know Shep is special, but I feel a redshirt and having 2 years after JJ leaves is best, especially with his leadership skills.

Jesus in cleats will not redshirt...

HAHAHAH good point on Lee but back it up further than this years debacle. Lee has only been playing ball for 4 years.

Agreed it is far from done but lets just be realilistic after what I seen Sheps arm is where it need to be just yet. He is an incredible athelete and needs to be on the field. Jefferson was atrue freshman playing in the midst of a ardous SEC schedule. Give him a full year taking the reps and getting game expereince from day 1. He will be a beast.

MOve him to WR and we will snag Travin Reed 2010 QB. Now you have your future locked up.

I don’t see Shep beating out JJ next year. As coach Tubberfield was saying at the game, the college game is much more sophisticated than the high school game. It is a tremendous jump for young players first coming out of college to make.
If I was Shep and quarterback is the position he really wants to play, then I would consider redshirting his first year and not plan on being ready to start until at least his sophomore year.
That way he could take the time to learn the intricacies of the college game and develop and hone in his skills and talent without putting too much pressure on himself.
Therefore, if he wants to play quarterback he should redshirt his first year and serve as JJ’s backup his redshirt freshman year, and then if JJ turns pro after his junior year, then that would open up the spot for Shep to beat out any other competition.
Nevertheless, I believe that Shep would be much better off in the long run to change his position all together, to say one of the wideout spots, where his considerable and versatile talents could be put more into better use. If he did change position he could definitely become a starter much sooner.
I’d love to see him in the slot, operating in the backfield, in the wild tiger, on end arounds, as a wideout, on bubble screens, and shuttle passes. I bet he would be a really electrifying player to watch. Plus I believe it would raise his draft stock considerably.
I know his heart is really set on playing quarterback, however, I believe his future and true value is as a versatile receiver and all around skills player.

Shep threw that 92 yard touchdown pass, had a beautiful 10 yard run on 3rd and 10.He made some mistakes, the kid is a high schooler with high school blocking(nobody on that black team line will start right away in college).Imagine Shep with a spring practice and fall practice with Crowton?

They had a week or so to gel a team.

My personal feelings from the get-go was that Shepard would eventually be a WR, however, I don't think any conclussions can be drawn from one high school all star game. One thing I did find interesting, RS looked a lot shorter than I was expecting, don't know if that bolds well for him at QB in the future or not.

He had 1 week to get adjusted to his teammates and the plays. He will have great coaching and time to get the plays down coming in early and all. I think he will do fine this year.

I hope he plays slotback next year or redshirts. It would be ashame if he only gets to play a few plays and then can't redshirt. ie JJ

Barkley got to play way more than shep. Not really fair comparison. 22 passes!!! compared to 6.

never seen anyone throw 22 passes in this type of a game
anyone have the stats as to how many passes the other QBs on his team threw?

Barkley was 11/22 with 237 yards and 2 TD
Shep rushed for 38 yards on six carries and completed two passes for 105 yards.
so 2/6. 2 TDs 1 F
