Are you sure that starling is going to play QB in college?

I'd take him! Can't hurt my chances of "winning".

Being a college football fan, this draft really gets me excited each year for the season. But as someone stated earlier, it gives you a rooting interest in teams other than your favorite.
But then you find out things like this...
Stephenson High School, in Stone Mountain Georgia, has sent a ton of talent to the college ranks, but I found that its defense was special one year. In 2006, four LBs and two DEs signed D-1 schollys.
They were:
1. Marcus Ball: First signed with Florida St., but transfered to Memphis, where he played safety the last two years. Totaled 108 tackles and 4 INTs. Will be draft eligible this year.
2. Jermaine Cunningham: Played at Florida and totaled 19 sacks and 34 TFL in three years. Was drafted in the 2nd rd by NE, and started 11 games last year.
3. Perry Riley: LSU LBer who was a Butkus finalist in 2008. Had 13 TFL in his career and was the Def MVP in 2009 Chick-Fil-A bowl. Was drafted in the 4th round last year by the Redskins.
4. Kelvin Sheppard: LSU LBer who ranked 9th in the team's history with 311 tackles. He also accumilated 26 TFL, 4.5 sacks, and 6 FFs. Draft eligible this year.
5. Bruce Irvin: Went to JUCO where he posted 16 sacks and 21 TFL in 2009. Signed with WVU and was second in the nation with 14 sacks last season. He also had 14 TFL. And, he wasn't any every down player last year. This year should be pretty special for this guy.
6. Kelechi Ordu: Signed with Tennessee Tech and was the starting Mike LBer his last two seasons. He totaled 157 tackles, 11 TFL and 2 sacks in his career. He is draft eligible this year, though it is unlikely he will be selected.
It is pretty amazing for one school to have six players selected to D-1 schools in one year. It is even more astounding to have those same six players all playing in the front seven.

I remember the top 4, didn't know Irvin went there, and didn't know the other guy existed.

So have we given any thought to scoring and stuff? I had some ideas for a system but nothing really concrete yet.
Posted on 4/19/11 at 10:31 am to RollTigers
I'm not a fan of a set scoring system. I'd prefer the "everybody rank the other teams" method. Just my opinion though.
Posted on 4/19/11 at 11:28 am to HARRY3740
How about everyone has a week to email Dan or Pasty their rankings of all teams, except their own. You cannot vote for yours and that works out to be a pretty unbiased system. If you're higher on other lists, it will work its way out.
Dan and Pasty give us a deadline, and we email them so there's no "well shite, I'm dropping them way low then!"

I'm really all for just waiting the three to four years. Any rankings now are way premature!

I tried that last year, and never calculated it

Pasty and I need to set up a TD Mock Draft email account where we can both access and get stuff like this...
I'd be fine with doing it ranking wise.

But alas, it's fun to have the opinions now for our own immediate gratification sake AND to be able to look back and compare in 3-4 years.
I like having both.

On a different note, LSU offered two players from Stephenson High in Stone Mountain, GA.
I guess they read my post on this page about the great athletes from that place.
As far as the rankings, I wouldn't mind doing something, but waiting a couple of years would be the most plausible option. Maybe starting next year, we can begin to rate our 2010 class, '11 the year after, et cetera.
Or, since I blew away the field last year, we can automatically arse-U-ME that I will have a repeat performance this year. Your call boys.

It looks like Colt Lyerla's going to be a TE/HB and since Harry already has one of those I think he should have to throw him back and draft a new LB.
Posted on 4/30/11 at 5:59 pm to JG77056
Yeah because Lyerla is the only player who will play a position other than what we drafted at.

Exactly.
I think last year both of my corners, a guard, and a receiver all played different positions. They played WR/KR, FS, DT, and RB respectively.

Ha. From the 2010 Draft, my top offensive lineman is fourth string, my top cornerback is now a wide receiver, my top wide receiver is now a safety, my top safety is now a linebacker, my top linebacker is now a safety, my running back blew out his knee, my top defensive tackle got switched to a 3-4 defensive end, my number two cornerback transferred, my tight end ended up being closer to 6'1" than the 6'4" he was listed at and transferred, and my inside linebacker got switched to running back and is now out of football.

Damn dude. I never really looked back on all teams on how their players turned out. I always wanted to but just never really sat down and did it.
Probably it would take so long to do.
I think I have one player (my center) that probably won't get any PT. I have two players that are buried on the depth chart, but have still have potential to get PT (WR- who is now a RB and DE- Jordan Allen, LSU). I am still hoping that my SS comes back from his mission in 2012 and still wants to play football. He was interviewed and after a year he still sounds very gung-ho.
