not saying gathers isn't good. i don't know. Just pointing out that if you are depending these people to tell you who can play and who can't, they aren't alway right.
Just know I've seen him play a couple times and I saw his AAU team without him. He is a high flyer for sure but has nothing else to his game. 6'6 or 6'7 with short arms and no real ability to play any sort of defense. Sounds like a smaller Storm Warren to me! He has no go to move or any move other than jump.

This is a very accurate description of Gathers. It will be interesting to see how he plays against others that's will be just as big and as strong as him. He's dominate at the high school level because he's so much bigger and stronger than his competition.

I think the Storm Warren comparison is a very good one.

I think we should all see how things shake out. If we are still harping on recruting or lack of recruiting at this time next year Trent obiously must be sent packing.

didn't those same people who do it for living have Morgan a five star can't miss prospect? he turned out well.
Sure because of his size not many raved about his ability.

Gathers has a ton of more athletic ability.....

in 3 years we won't be saying we missed out
gathers is a man amongst boys right now. he doesnt have a discernible skillset other than just being bigger and stronger than his competition
he wont be a 4 in college and doesnt have the ballskills to be a 3 right now

He will definitely be a 4 in college.

Gathers claims he will be a 3. I can't imagine he will sign with a college that didn't agree that was his position.

Rebounding translates among all levels. If he's looking like a rebounding beast to everybody watching him in AAU's then he isn't just doing it on smaller opponents, since he's probably on 6'7'' he's probably undersized against a lot of AAU's.

Tasmin Mitchell esque (when it comes to what was said about him in the NBA)?

His arse isn't undersized against other AAU's. I'd say it's the complete opposite for most of the competition he plays against. You don't see many high school basketball players that are 6'7" 250 lbs and strong as an ox (relatively speaking) and has his athleticism.

I'm talking about against top AAU's who definitely have players bigger than 6'7''.

he may have to play the 4 bc he cant stay with 3's, but that doesnt mean that is his optimal position
with his frame, he would be an absolute stud 3 if he had any ball skills
he's too undersized to be a 4 and he won't be able to outmuscle people at the next level

i see him as very tazmin mitchell-esqu except i dont see the mechanics for a servicaeable jumper a la taz
he's an impressive specimen at the high school level, but i just dont see him developing much at the d1 level
and i would be saying the same thing if trent had signed him

If he adds 15 lbs he can be a Dejuan Blair/Paul Milsap type.

blair is an outlier and isn't milsap closer to 6'9?
i just dont see much fluidity in gathers at all. from his movements to how he handles the ball to his jumper
its not fluid bballish. its herky-jerky explosive footballish. i dont think he can get by with that as he moves up a level of competition

Maybe not in the NBA, but in college he surely can.
