They would never award the title to anyone without holding the competition. There simply would be no champions crowned for this season.

I hope they let the Seniors take a red shirt year and let them compete again next year. This is so sad.

What a bummer for these athletes. The poor seniors. They never got a proper send off.

The NCAA can’t just allow everyone another season because you have issues with scholarship limits and what-not. The teams with loaded senior classes would be at a huge advantage next year. It’s just unfortunate.

Ruby and Edney just thanked LSU fans. Their careers are over.

What an awful way to go for athletes of all spots.

The Seniors have been GREAT Representatives for LSU. We have enjoyed every minute of their journey and wish them the ABSOLUTE BEST life has to offer!
Thanks for many GREAT MEMORIES!!

TB357, Did Ruby and Edney announce this in an article or Socail Media?

Social media

Very unlikely any of these sports get eligibility back for these kids. Not sure how they can cover the financial costs across the board with all these sports, factoring in all the incoming kids next year. Unless they adjust the scholarship count, the school would have to foot a pretty big bill.

I feel bad for a lot of those kids. Horrible way for a senior year to end. For many, this was it for them. They aren’t going pro.

Thank you seniors, and congratulations to Kennedi on being on being announced as an AAI finalist. I hope they’ll still award regular season all American honors and SEC awards.

I am so sad for Ruby, Kennedi and Ashlyn. I first got into NCAA gym for the 2017 season and started following LSU since I loved Ruby so much from her time on the GB elite scene. Very sobering that they don't get a senior night. It's for the best, but damn, this sucks beyond measure for the athletes.

At least this gives us an opportunity to get our athletes healthy for next season. Kiya, Kai, Kamryn, Alyona, Olivia and Sarah all need that recovery time.

If anything, I really do think we outperformed expectations this season, but we were never going to challenge for the Natty. And technically our SEC champions streak is still alive... 2021 is going to be so different.

The SEC Championship will return to NOLA next year which will be a bonus for team spirit!

After my tears (my heart hurts for the seniors), I finally decided to look at the positive side of things. Now the athletes have more time to heal. This team has been banged up all year. Olivia, Kiya, Kai, Alyona, Sarah, Kamryn, and Caitlin all could use the time off. But I do feel bad for Maddie and Courtney. They were both coming along on floor. And now Rau will have a full summer of training.

So all is not lost. Let’s stay positive. And hope we get everyone healthy for next year.

I too started following LSU because of Ruby after the Rio Olympics, so this senior class is a really special one for me. It sucks that they didn't get a proper send off. That being said, it seems like cancelling season is the best choice in light of the public health concerns.

And as several people have already pointed out, from a LSU perspective, this year has been tough for the team. So many injuries and nagging health problems. Glad they get a chance to heal up and avoid further injury, which was a risk. Hopefully they can come back strong next year, with the killer freshman class coming too.

I hope this devastating end encourages seniors who are eligible to come back for a fifth year (e.g., Courtney McGregor, the Glenn sisters).

I wonder how this all affects a possible redshirt for Edwards with the season cut short. I would think LSU would appeal that if it gets to that point.

It sounds like the NCAA maybe offering an extra year of eligibility to seniors whose seasons got cut short I don't know the whole details yet but I just heard something about it. Don't know how much of the season you were pad to miss like softball and baseball are gonna miss more than half their season

Basketball and gymnastics pretty much all completed full regular reasons and missed post seasons. Those are considered winter sports though. I don't see them granting extra eligibility just because there was no post season.

Most of baseball and softball have not even gotten to conference play. 2/3 of the year was essentially cut off. That is a pretty significant chunk. I think giving schools the ability to extend eligibility will be an option but the scholarship question and roster cap limits are areas I am intrigued how they handle.
