Yea in my opinion we are way better depth wise on d line. Harris if he stays straight is better than any CB we had last year and is elite. On the other side Alexander, Welch, Banks, and maybe Johnson from Ohio ST if we land him will battle it out. Safety has some depth. Hopefully Sage improves. LB is my only concern. Perkins has elite talent but has lots to learn if they put him in a traditional LB position. Penn is improving but I still think you need an experienced thumper in the middle. IMO Perkins should be used like a Parsons or Simmons from Clemson. Let him wreck havoc.

It's not an indication of Weeks talent to say we are in trouble if he sees significant playing time next year. He is extremely talented and it appears he will be a great Tiger. Transitioning from high school to the SEC is difficult. He does need to gain weight. I hope he shows out, but honestly if he is seeing significant playing time as a freshmen, then we will have issues on defense.

You're doing it again. You act like LSU doesn't have others on the roster.

No I'm assuming if we had a legit title-contending team, they would have shown out more last year and we wouldn't have to rely on portal stop gaps so much.

Remember, I'm not saying LSU isn't likely to be a good team or even possibly great. I'm saying putting "title-contending" on them is WAY too much considering the holes.

I don’t think we have a great defense at the moment and I’m not sure what y’all saw in our defense this year but they weren’t very good? They were good at key spots in games which I suppose is most important but if we don’t improve or stay the same, it’ll be another tough year and hopefully the offense can do just a little more next year to overcome the defense.

Imo I see the defense, at this moment as a push to slightly worse off than last year. That can easily change with more additions to the secondary, at LB and more DL depth. What we have now will wear down at some point during the season. We need at least 2 more DLman. One good experienced edge guy and another balanced DE. I think then we’ll have enough depth to offset any shortcomings we end up with during the season, like injury or if someone ends up not working out for whatever reason. We do have Wingo and hopefully the big man, Maason Smith, comes back without much set back and continues to show growth. We have Wiggins and Jones with others behind, the freshman and the transfers. We basically need 3-4 of those to be as good as our starters. I think we may slightly improve in the secondary if we land another decent DB in the transfer portal and we really need some serious help at LB. With some luck CBK may be able to pull this off in the portal and allow for LSU to improve on D. I guess what hurts in my eyes is the fact that we didn’t land any depth at DL or much at LB and we will really need both to survive. We will need to load up on both positions next year.

We do have a pretty good DC who can scheme the new guys up so maybe he can tweak things with a better idea of what his players can do and who he thinks they will become. That could also help, not to mention another year in this system, including the S&C program which I thought did great things for the team all year.
