jembeurt selects Joshua Perry OLB, tOSU
An early enrollee, he has the upperhand on what could be a wide open depth chart at LB this year. Originally committed to tOSU back in June 2010, and stayed on even through the coaching changes and sanctions. Playing WR/LB his JR year, he switched to playing RB/LB his SR year, so it shows his athleticism. Seen here, his speed is VERY deceptive. His 6'3" 225 frame looks like he isn't moving, and then he is gone. That speed is why he is more than capable of playing outside. His frame though, if more weight is added, could push him to other spots.
I still haven't decided if I am going to play a 3-4 or a 4-3 Defense yet. Perry is very good at run defense, and if he were to tack on 15 lbs or so, he would be a great Sam in a 3-4 with Eligwe being my Will. Goldman has the athleticism to be an end in a 3-4 with Wormley on the other side. Getting McCullers would have made this perfect, but oh well.

I was just about to say that I thought you had one of the better squads.

Dunno where OIT is. I text him but no response. I'll bump when I get to work(or Pasty can now).

He got put on the clock pretty late last night. Your call. I will let you bump when ready. It is Mardi Gras, so no telling when any of these guys might surface.
My vote would be to wait until mid morning.

Adam Bisnowaty, OT Pitt.
I'm going to put him at Guard though because I think he'll grow into that space.
And thanks for waiting. Mardi Gras threw my usual schedule off a bit. I'm not sure if I'm 100% solid with the guys I picked over the weekend but operating via text and away from home, I'm pretty happy with McManus and Darboh.

Kyle Dodson, OT, Ohio State. Look at this guy's offer list. Tons of offers from top-tier schools. He's got prototypical size and I expect him to have some success early.
My biggest worry is his GPA - I think O-line is such a cerebral position that I worry a little that he coasted through high school with a 2.6. He had a pretty rough injury late in the year, but he should be able to play in the fall.
I like first classes for new head coaches - they want new guys to fit their system, and if he recovers and does well in class I see Dodson as a three-year starter.

I'm taking a different approach this year than I have in years past. Trying to really take into account the team that these guys are going to.
I'm gun shy about guys at talent-rich schools (Bama, Ohio State, USC) because I worry, unless this guy is a lock, that he won't play very much and contribute early. I'm also taking into account likelihood of conference honors (SEC v. WAC) and I'm coming up with some good results.
Whatever I do, I just need to have some better luck with this team than years past because I haven't done very well. And, unfortunately, I simply do not have the time for extra time in the film room.
You make a good point about regime change like at OSU though....
Oh, and that picture HAS to be staged because it's too perfect a representation of a football player.

I look at the schools and try to look at their depth chart, but this year I'm also looking more at the schools/conferences and what type of talent they produce. I've taken a lot of highly rated PAC-12 defensive guys in the past and they aren't doing much.
That's why I took two of Charlie Strong's linebackers this year. New coach wanting his guys and a defensive minded coach to make them better players.
Agreed on the picture. :badass:

Yeah, I really wanted Keith Brown; thanks for that.

It's the "new coach/new QB" saying, meaning the coach coming in might favor "his players". Problem with that is the players coming in with him this year, for the most part, were recruited by the old coaching staff. Yes they made connections with those players, but I always look at the class the second year the coach is there. This is completely the type of players that the staff is looking for.
On the flip side of that is when prospects switch due to a coaching change. Using Devante Harris as an example, one of my corners, he switched from Oklahoma to A&M after the coaching change. This was another reason why I valued him so high, not to mention their CB depth is hot garbage.
Then you have players like Josh Perry, one of my LBs, who committed almost two years ago to tOSU, and kept with that commitment, even with all the shite coming down over there during that time. That tells me that he got together with Corch and all are on the same page.

Yeah, the picture sold me
I drafted a lot of guys from lower-tier schools last year and I'm going to be doing the same thing later this year - I just have a few specific linemen that I want and I realize that they're going to be off the boards later, whereas I can probably get running back x who's going to WAC school y into the late teens. Also, my first two round picks were from Rutgers and UVA. I love the top guys going to the mediocre schools - I was so rooting for New Mexico to get Kouandijo last year
Also, Jembeurt, Dodson was a signing day switch to Ohio State and his interviews about the school and Corch were great. Seems like a character kid.

I usually scarcely look at depth charts, because I figure the cream will rise. I wouldn't let it dissuade me from taking someone, but if I find a guy with a scant depth chart, I'll add a plus to his name as well.
I realize recruiting sites don't always have reliable offer databases, but I try to use that as frequently as possible, and look across multiple sites. I look at the coaches I respect the most (positionally) for the types of things I want to do, and then try to look at what type of players are offered by that school. Then I pick a lot of my guys based on that (and watching their tape).

Tyler Hayes
OLB 6'3 215 lbs
247 Sports #11 OLB
Scout #11 OLB
ESPN #10 OLB
Rivals #12 OLB
I like this guy because he is a true athlete and is going to a team that has a history of making superstars at LB role. I do fear the amount of competition.

OBUDan did you ever watch the Maty Mauk video I posted?
Yes.

I disagree.

THIS kind of arm
I think a lot of D1 prospects could throw the ball 65 yards, especially with that much air under it.

THIS kind of running ability
I'd like to see him do it against some non scrubs.
Mauk is a decent prospect. He certainly could be a very good player. I think he's short. He reminds me of a guy like Chase Daniel, but with a better arm. But he's not walking into a situation where he can start 3 years. He's like a better Drew Tate, or something.
JMO. Obviously you believe he's the best QB in the class, since you think he's the 2nd best player overall.

I was going to say Dan LeFevor or Ben Mauk. But I think Chase is a really good comparison. MM won't be able to run like that in college. He'll be a drop back passer primarily with the ability to run around like Matt Flynn was. IMO
