Recruiting Is Merely Negotiations - So Back Away From The Ledge

-at some point in negotiations the QB, boat, or house just isn't worth it to you
-we'll find out soon whether or not the buyer is happy with the purchase as time never lies, so the truth will ultimately be revealed and they'll be no argument
-life doesn't end if you walk away from the purchase, and that is how you negotiate successfully. It's not life and death, just money versus the purchase
-i've bought and (mostly) sold businesses during my career. Only have one regret so far (but I didn't control that negotiation totally), so I'm pretty happy
-overpaying is never a good thing and at some point, you have to say "no"
-lots of folks overpaid for a house, car, or boat, and now regret it
-there's always another QB, or house that will more than suffice. Never forget this
AND
-nobody will ever make all the right buying/selling decisions. never 100%
AND
-people who live and die by rules and regiments, usually do quite nicely

I agree with this, but if only this applied to coaches too....

LSU made the right choice. It just sucks that it came this late and ended like it did. Was bad for college football in general as well.

We didn’t have a choice. We can’t compete with Michigans offer.

How did you feel when your business took three losses in a row and paid 10mm a year for them? One loss was to a bitter rival that you had two weeks to prepare for. You were seen on camera cussing. Out one of your employees that was week to week. You told your share holders that year three was the year to produce.
Did that have any weight on getting business commitments walking away?

Something tells me that LSU still wouldn't offer him that kind of money even if they could. Because that is beyond ridiculous for a high school kid.

100% agree. The fact that he waited until less than 2 weeks from ESD is shitty to say the least. Karma may pay him a visit one day soon.

It completely resets the market value for college players across the board.
You ever wonder why guys in the NFL don’t get deals that are some outrageous % more per year than the last top contract? It’s because owners know that’s bad for business and all of the teams lose when that happens. Well Michigan just went and did that.

The NFL model also is one that justifies paying Daniel Jones 50 mil a season. It's far from the perfect model. Every top qb will not be getting 3 mil a year. In the NFL, they all are or will make 50 mil a year. Even the Daniel Jones of the league. And they have a salary cap. Imagine that much of your salary cap being wasted on Daniel fricking Jones. Ask Saints fans how the NFL model is beneficial to them. Talk about buyers remorse.
I do get your point however, I think Michigan is an outlier. LSU isn't the only power school that would've rejected to match that offer. Reportedly we didnt get the chance to but we wouldnt have. Texas refused to match the 1.5 DK Moore was offered by Oregon. They arent broke. Or stupid, which matching that would've been.

No high school kid is worth 10 mil or more.

Tell us you've "never been in sales" without telling us "you've never been in sales".....

In one way or the other, yes, my whole life

If we decided to go all in for the number 1 QB and overall recruit in the nation and not have some backup plans then we should have been prepared to be the highest bidder.
