You missed my point. A top 10 recruiting class is basically the same
the #10 class is not basically the same as the #1 class, sorry

I'm not even talking about just the in-state guys, but the out of state guys as well. We've whiffed on guys out of state that we needed whether it was a DL, OL, DB, etc.

i project we finish this year 4-7 range.

That would be pretty solid for a year that many were calling "down"

but are we looking at being the favorites for the "recruiting national title" that bama has dominated the past almost decade? is that where our expectations lie? or are we thinking more 3-5 every year with an occasional top class?
There is not a school the country that is bringing in a better class of skilled position players than LSU. Equal to? OK. But not better than.
Xavier Lewis
Kevin Toliver
Donte Jackson
Derrius Guice
Nicholas Brossette
Tyron Johnson
Derek Dillon
I feel very comfortable in saying these guys will be inking with LSU Feb. 4.
The beef is lacking, but I like the offensive lineman that LSU has committed. Next year is the defensive line class.
With only losing one player (Thomas) after the 2015 season from the interior of the DLine, LSU can wait on prospects and the stellar 2016 crop -- I'd prefer to sign a program guy in this class.
Need DEnds, though.

probably get 2 or 3 kids a year that we wouldn't have before
mainly, keeping kids in louisiana will improve
this.
We still are not the national brand that Alabama is. It's hard to beat them right now with recruits. Doesn't matter who's on staff.
But now we can sleep at night knowing we have O and Wilson out protecting the borders.
I don't see much of a jump this year. I'm guessing we finish at 5. Next year should compete for the title.

Recruiting national titles are a joke
I get the feeling behind this, but we're sitting on a recruiting board for goodness sakes. Of course they don't 'matter', but in a very real sense, they do 'matter.'
But for the most part, look at the NC winners over the last 15 years and find one with poor recruiting rankings. You won't find one. Period.

That's just the official number - between all the resets and whatnot, Jake's probably in the 7 figures (or really, really close by now).
His thumbs are bionic, brah.

fair is fair. we won't use 2015 b/c of outlier (time) and we won't use 2016 b/c of outlier (super loaded talent in LA)
This is a ridiculous stance to take. If 2016 is considered an outlier due to the amount of talent, why not 2014? 2016 may have more depth, but I seriously doubt it produces two players the caliber of Fournette and Cam Robinson. Those two only scratch the surface of the talent in the state last year. Is 2011 an outlier? Having La'el, Jarvis and Anthony Johnson all as 5* players is pretty rare, not to mention Kenny Hillard, Jeremy Hill, Odell Beckham and Greg Robinson.
You know what year is truly an outlier? 2012 due to the lack of top talent and depth. Very few guys from that class, especially ones that committed to LSU, panned out. That's an outlier. 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016 are the new norm for recruiting in this state, IMO

If Bama gets #1 next year without Lance Thompson and Kevin Steele, I just think they are unbeatable at recruiting.
Saban is clearly the main recruiter, but Steele and Thompson were aces in recruiting and did a TON of the leg work like organization of the board and constant communication and travel.
I think if we retain O, Wilson, Steele, and Raymond after this season, combined with the awesome in state talent we have next year, I think we are a lock for a top 3 class.

close to top 5 every year is my expectation. the reality is, the rankings have some flaws when you translate them to success on the field.
1) they don't (probably can't) take into account TEAM NEEDS. for example, a team can sign 5 5star DB's and no DL's and get damn high rankings.
2) there really is no way to accurately project any one person's value in the future with a high degree of accuracy, esp with an athlete that is not physically or emotionally mature yet.
yes, the law of large numbers is meaningful but a class ranked 12th may translate to a much better class on the field than a class ranked first.

very good summary.
Number 1 above is impossible to put into a formula that is fair.
Number 2 is my biggest pet peeve with those who claim stars don't matter because 5 stars sometimes don't pan out or sometimes 3 stars become famous. You have analysts over there scouting 16, 17 and 18 year old KIDS. They are not mature, they haven't stopped growing, and scouts don't have a formula for personaliy/family life/drugs/crime/upbringing. It's a tough job that they do fairly well at.

There is no possible way anybody but Bama can win the recruiting title for ESPN. ESPN automatically give players another star and moves them to the top when they commit to BAMA. Case and point this year. Once all of the players committed to Bama, they were all higher in the rankings when the updates came out.

it really isn't Alabama. before saban we outrecruited them a lot. nick saban is a damn rock star to high school athletes.
