Real story about recruiting

One day I would love for a group of former big time football players to sit down and write a book about their recruiting stories. Whether you want to believe it or not, recruiting is a dirty and nasty business. ALL the big programs offer money to the big time players or that program won't even be considered.
No, I'm not talking about 2 or 3 star players, but I'm referring to the very best players in the country. I'm not saying the head coaches are the ones offering, but every major program has an operation in place to give themselves the best shot at possibly landing that stud recruit. As in NASCAR, if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.
I'm referring to things the average fan will never see or hear about, such as gifts/money/vehicles/jobs/homes to the girlfriend, friends, coaches, influential family member or street agent. Big time college football has nothing to do with academics, but everything to do with winning at all cost.
A retired college coach once told me that college football is one of the few occupations where it pays to cheat. If you land some big time recruits and win some games, you get a huge raise. If you don't win, you get fired and you go to work for one of your buddies for a few years until another head coaching opportunity presents itself!
The bottom line is college football is dirty and its all about winning and money, period! Ask yourself, when was the last time a head coach got in trouble for cheating in the last 20 years and couldn't find another coaching job? Never! So the next time you fall victim to one of those "big announcement" ceremonies with 10 different caps on the table, just understand that 5-star's decision was made a long time before he made it public. The reality of the situation is a player's decision has very little to with how well their visit went, but more about everything you can't see behind the scenes.
I would love one day to have a group of former players write a book and expose the real truth about recruiting. I, for one, would definitely buy a copy!

There is a book called meat market and it's about college football recruiting from their perspective. However, I haven't read it yet

No need for the book, you've already told us "average fans" everything that happens. You must be a big insider. 
Sure there is cheating in recruiting but to say that all big recruits are bought and paid for is as ludicrous as thinking none are bought and paid for.

We upped it to 500k that's the number I heard thrown around multiple places.

I can't deny any of this, my only question is, why haven't stuff like this been leaked.. Why hasn't recruits call out schools for doing it if the my pick another school? Just a thought.

I think Ricky seals-jones said a school offered him 600k. It was rumored to be LSU but who knows, but then again how much did Aggy offer. And miami fans accused us of paying Patrick Peterson

The cash handed out in program history might not hit these figures. Hardly anyone gets cash. Plenty of impermissible benefits going on but the stories of signing day bonuses are cooked up bullshite.
Easy overpaid jobs are the biggest "common" NCAA violation. That goes on everywhere. Even at the non power 5 places.

It's a dirty business for most programs at first contact. I know a few of my friends received numerous heavy hand shakes upon arriving at OVs and camps at several universities. Some of the stories Ive heard from recruiting all the way through draft day, nothing would surprise me.

Even back in the '80's money exchanged hands. I was part of several money handshakes and I only played at a 1-AA school.

In football - during recruiting:
Kids win cash and prizes on official visits
Cash to a family member or friend after a commitment
After they sign: Zero interest "loans" to an "uncle"
Unusually high paying jobs for the player's "cousin"
Unusually high compensation for part time summer jobs for the players
Higher than normal player ticket re-sale prices
Car lease in player's name that gets "paid"
Basketball is where the real cash is handed out because one guy can make all the difference in a program. It is actually pretty simple.
Safe deposit box at a bank is registered with a booster's shell company representative (someone like a secretary or clerk) and the name of a "friend or cousin or uncle" of the player
Booster rep puts cash in safe deposit box when player commits.
Again when player signs with school.
Again when player shows up on campus and is eligible.
Player can get more cash if he/she comes back for another year. If the player leaves for the pros, at some point the agent will take over the financial support and the boosters stop giving the player money.

That's why everyone wants that last visit because it's that school's final time they have a chance to fill up the shoe box! It wasn't too long ago that Ole Miss had a player sign and he never even visited the school! Money, money, money!
