Why do scout and rivals disagree so much in their rankings of the Sooner's 2010 recruiting class? Ascout ranks them 2nd while Rival ranks them 7th in the nation.

Depends if you like quality or quantity. They took 29 kids and of those not one 5 star and only sixteen 4 stars. In Rival's eyes almost half of their class is made up of 3 stars or less. That drives down their overall ranking.

That's why USC is so high on Rivals, they only took 20 kids but of those 20, 19 are 4 star or above.

29 signings can also mean that many of those players are grade risks. I know that doesn't transfer over to the playing field, but I've seen players drop in ranking due to grade issues.

They only take in account the top twenty from a class. There are bigger margins than that however. Don't recall the numbers but South Carolina, Ohio State were pretty far apart as well as others.

They need to pick their game up, slackin'.

Rivals underrates Kenny Stills, Brennan Clay and Blake Bell that's why.

I wrote to Rivals about the headcount and how they take it into account and they say they use the best 22 players, not 20.

Another 'site' may use 20 as you mentioned.

Of course one of the sites is a bit off. ratings are a best guess, some combination of numbers and intuition and how he looks.
ratings are not facts, they are officially, guesses.

I read once that only 20% of five star guys make it in the NFL.
Whatever the real percentage, its not 100%.

So, everyone is guessing. Being in the top ten, its up to the kids to be good citizens, learn their unit plays, and improve technique and take care of their bodies. Then we see who lives up to the potential and who exceeds expectations and who is Ryan Perilloux. I wonder if he is invited to Indianapolis for the combine.

I don't follow recruiting as closely as others but this is probably a good illustration of the recruiting "cone of uncertainty".

Does anyone know if recruiting services grade themselves, i.e., assign some player grade over the course or at the end of a players college eligibility?
