it's tough to say his offense was anything but tied to running a spread until oregon (where he mainly ran spread with a lil spread option)
only at LSU where miles demands i-form, up the gut running, has there really been a change
And only at LSU has he won a national championship, right?

I think the two of them balance each other well. In the SEC you will always need to line up in the power I and pound the ball, but I like what Crowton is doing when Miles let's him open the playbook.
As our young QB's gain experience and confidence I think we will see the offense open up more and more. And with the exceptional talent at the skill positions lining up to put on P&G we could be looking at a very prolific offensive attack.

The team that has won 2 of the last 3 championships disagrees.

I think people saw what our offense will look like in the first half against GTech. Or even when we had Russell at QB.
When you have beasts like Quinn Johnson and Scott in the backfield, and a QB with no confidence, I'm not sure why this is even a debate what we did last year.

Les Miles whose opinion actually matters disagrees with you. Besides Florida still runs out of the I. Hell I think even TTech runs out of the I.

Traylor,
Join LSUtigahs as the Richard Simmons Duo for the Rant....or Recruiting Board.
Seriously. Are you trying to summons SFP to talk for you?
I simply said that I understood the spread was for fast qbs in the beginning. But there were also successful spreads with passers. Stop being a homer and read the whole post.
"Spread isn't an offense?" Please, kid.

are you calling the shotgun an i-form now b/c the QB lines up behind the center?

like timmy chang? kliff kingsbury? ty detmer? tim couch?
Posted on 6/16/09 at 8:12 am to SlowFlowPro
Correct.
Tim Couch and Ty Detmer were around before I had heard of the spread.
QB's in the likes of Tebow and White changed peoples' (well, mine) thinking that they were the beginning or evolution of the spread offense.

Guys like Flynn are good for our offense. A spread offense. The Patriots run a spread offense. 3-5 WR sets etc. A QB who can throw first is needed imo.

then you didn't listen
couch, detmer, kingburry, chang, etc were running the spread years ago

different offense that has "spread" in the title
look one offense is a pure passing offense. the other is based off the option. they're not the same thing
Posted on 6/16/09 at 9:23 am to SlowFlowPro
yet, called, the spread....
NOW, you can see where the confusion comes from.
I had never heard of the spread back in the Detmer days. I heard, "west coast," but never spread.
Sorry I missed that.

because (1) they both have "spread" in the title and (2) sportscasters are lazy and preach to the lowest common demoniator

well i was about 2 years old when detmer was running byu's offense, so it might not be the spread, but i've heard it referred to that way. chow isn't a spread guy, so it may not be
however the other QBs i listed DEFINITELY ran the spread.
are you going to tell me that texas tech runs the same offense as florida? or west virginia and hawaii?

I am talking about Zach Lee, not Jarret Lee.

that may be some impressive QB stats but the game of football is won with balance, running and passing.

I have been following this kid hoping he would be a Husker, he definitely has some skill. Most impressed with the quickness on the option play in this video someone posted to another board.

Great stuff, thanks Husker!
