We had 29 signees last year plus 18 in the portal. Yes this is the new normal.

quote:Don't we have Picarella? Dude was a 3 star QB with offers, but walked on to LSU. 6'2 215. If the scholarships increased, wouldn't we just make him a scholarship QB? That would solve the emergency QB angle. Then go get two QBs in the portal and you'll have at least 3 QBs.
You have to get minimum 2 portals if MVB returns. Cannot go into a season with less than 3 scholarship QBs.
I know others wouldn't want to spend the money, but if you could convince a vet and Underwood to come, he could redshirt and be a primary backup (of course we allow him to compete). And then have the emergency QB, I think you'd be set. Listen, Kiffin got the troubled vet from Oklahoma St (he was the multi year starter), to come to Ole Miss. He also had Jaxson Dart in his 2nd year (basically used the Okie St guy as competition), and freshman Austin Simmons in the wings.
They said Kelly spent 18 mill on the roster last year. They said Kiffin will have no less than 25 mill, possibly even 30 mill. Do people think it was cheap for Oregon to have Gabriel and Moore on the roster at the same time? What about Ohio St having Howard and Sayin? Anybody with a 5 star backup freshman QB is paying well over a mill a year for both. I say get Chambliss for 3 mill and get Underwood for 1.5 mill. Nuss alone cost 3rd round draft money this year. MVB also cost money to go from being a starter at Miss St, to a guaranteed backup at LSU behind Nuss.
Get those QBs squared away first.

So you think Bryce Underwood would take a multimillion dollar pay cut to sit the bench? You’re out your mind if you believe that.

We're good enough on DL,DT, and CB. If we take anyone there, they better become an all-american.

LSU's originally final offer was somewhere around 6 mill for 3 years. When Underwood finishes this year, it will be 3 mill down. That's half of what LSU fully offered. If he gets 1.5 mill each year over 2 years, it will be 6 mill in 3 years, originally what LSU offered. He can learn under a guru and watch a legit QB play while still getting paid. What in the HELL do you think Dante Moore did? He literally did the same exact thing i am saying to you. Oregon got Gabriel after 2 years with Nix. They also got Moore after his disastrous UCLA freshman stint to take a pay cut and sit as a backup behind vet Gabriel for a year. Moore was committed to Oregon before ultimately taking more money to go to UCLA as well.
If Underwood gets it, if his parents get it, if his agent gets it, he'll go to LSU at a paycut as a backup. We've literally just seen it work out. Now Moore is considered a top 20 pick if he comes out, but he might come back for one more year with a pay raise. That would also happen with Underwood if he wants a 4th year.

Imho, getting 3 quarterbacks will be very difficult. Also, I see only 2 RB’s coming. Don’t be surprised if we get just a couple OL, unless several of what we have hit the portal. We have them all coming back and with proper coaching, will be better.

Depends on how many more we lose also, right. Still probably lose a few more to portal after bowl game.

One of the best “college” QB coaches in the country. The “knock” on Lane and his offense is it’s too QB friendly and doesn’t really develop them for the NFL.
Also, besides money, Underwood said the biggest thing for him was early playing time.
We had Nuss coming back and the Michigan starting job was open. There is a less than zero chance Underwood comes here without a promise to start. Even less than that that he comes here to “compete.” Even less than that that he comes here to “compete” for the backup job and redshirting is on the table.
Even less than that—if it’s even possible—that he would move from AND take a significant pay cut to do all that. You are not living in anything close to the real world.

This would be wild. 25 portal additions would make my head spin.
