Only three scholarship running backs on team

I'm selfishly kinda glad. Tired of seeing the offense spread out 30+ carries per game with a crowded backfield.. I want to see them feed Jackson between 17-23 carries per game.

Having three scholarship running backs is obviously very light. Even four isn't a huge cushion if you plan to have a team that can compete for championships.

Just like any other position, running backs generally take time to adjust to the speed and experience of the SEC, the blocking duties, ball security, the receiving duties, etc. There are the phenoms who explode onto the scene immediately, but it's rare.

I remember the team that had Faulk, Collins, Mealey, Cleveland and Johnson. Maybe the best running back collection ever at LSU. Then Cecil went full Cecil, Faulk had nagging injuries, and the bulk of the carries fell to Mealey in several games. Cleveland (10 carries) and Johnson (7 carries) just weren't ready.

I certainly hope Holly returns, but even four running backs isn't overly deep if one goes down for the season and another misses a couple of games. Sure, they could play a walk on, but it doesn't guarantee that he would be anything other than a space filler.

If all works out, 2025 could be a very good group, but I'm more concerned with 2024. A couple of injuries could change the "run first" philosophy they are apparently relying on. While a lot of teams would be set back with a couple of injuries, I wouldn't be confident if they caused LSU to go into games with a diminutive running back with few carries who missed the entire Spring, backed up by a true freshman.

If no one gets hurt, then my concern may be all for naught. I hope that's the case, just as we all do.

Williams and Jackson will be our virtual bell cows

Durham and Holly will be our change of pace

Between those 4 there isn't much to worry about IMO. Lots of ways to spread out touches and carries with 4 guys. Like most I'm highest on Jackson and hope he can take over the top spot this year.

Yes we need at least 1 of Jackson/Williams to be available and healthy to eat most of our carries especially in the SEC matchups but between the OL we have and Nuss we should be more than fine.

I also agree with us being more run centric and using TOP to help out the defense.

I think we will still be good offensively but last year we might have been too explosive for our own good with Daniels, Nabors, and Thomas sometimes scoring TDs on 5 plays or less

I think it’s a little foolish to assume Holly will be able to make an impact after missing spring and summer.

I wish we would go get Tre Citizen!!!

Yeah, I don't understand how people are so unconcerned about RB depth.

Is there a category between average and below average? That's where I'd put Williams. He's pretty effective when he's in. He just doesn't have breakaway speed.
