So would you be OK is Ol Pete took a chance on a kid who took 6 years to graduate HS, over a kid with more potential who has his stuff in order?
I woudl not be okay if Pete took a chance on a kid who took 6 years to graduate HS, then pulled his schollie the night before when the kid showed big time interest and was likely coming.

This is what everyone is missing: the bad guy is RR's dad for forcing Miles to choose between 2 good players
He did not force Miles to do anything. Miles made this classless move all on his own, then apparently lied about the reasons.

What we should have done is buy both of their mommas a home, then we could have kept them both. What ya think Tangerine, good idea or not?

Miles made a decision for the PROGRAM......now get over it.
We'll find out in 2-3 years if it was a good move or not....but he did what he thought was best.

What lies? The only report I have seen regarding Miles public comment is that the offer was withdrawn. No reason was stated. Is there some other statement as to ther reasons that Miles has given?

when did he lie about the reasons?
i don't like it either, but we needed to get 1 guaranteed receiver and Benton isn't it.

I'm concerned about players blackmailing coaches and kids not wanting to play against competition on the same team.
This is the aspect that I think everyone is overlooking. Not saying that Randle is going to be a problem, but Miles needs to keep a close eye on this. Players or player's families dictating to the coaching staff who they will or will not play with can create locker room issues, and division among the team.
As for Benton, would have loved to have him for his one year, but he made his bed by failing to qualify and then taking visits after the loyalty LSU showed. Just wish Miles had pulled his scholarship when he decided to visit Auburn instead of 2 weeks later. Maybe Miles did it for the right reason, but the timing makes it look bad and you can bet Meyer and Saban will use it against him on the recruiting trail.

I was a college recruiter for 10 years and when the question came forward at the presser- my first reaction was NOT to reply out of respect for the athlete and the hs coach.
It would have been entirely easy for Miles to dance around that one and he intentionally chose NOT to. So, I agree with a few of the other posters..maybe he was fed up and felt he had more to lose by not being open (RR trust, etc) than throwing the kid under the bus. Benton just had too much baggage and probably needed to be somehwere else.

But then again, it isn't like they don't have their own issues.
From what one reads on the internet boards:
Meyer promises we will change our whole offense for you.
Saban will give you a scholarship as a freshman and take it away if he has someone better the next year.
All of the coaches have their supposed weaknesses.

I don't doubt it was a program and business move. But it was also classless. You are the one who needs to get over the fact that it was classless. I am merely pointing it out.

The first post in the stickie above where someone reported what he said.

This is true ... but Meyer and Saban are the two most likely to use negative recruiting methods, regardless of their own lack of integrity. From all indications, Miles does not recruit that way (but I really don't know).

You know, I think LSU should have just offered to provide both of them a couple of 100k work study programs AND bought both of their mommas new homes. Then we could have kept them both. OH, and throw in a couple of brand spanking new Cadillac Escalades just for good measure, and all paid for with those work study programs of course. That would have been much more classy, huh Tangerine?

Low class Les. Now, we are locked out of another school!

Major division 1 football recruiting is not for the faint of heart. Get off the fluffy comments-Les is a good guy- alot of shite happens on the trail- and only he knows why he decided to make that tactic public. Now, let's get on with SPRING practice!!

I think I am on to why Benton had a tough time getting his grades
IF Miles pulled his offer out of the Randle camp comments, well that is just chickenshit. And it appears there is zero other explanation. The visit to AU is just an easy excuse.
Does RR get to call plays too? He dictated recruiting, why not?

TigerFan11 nailed it, yeah it would have been easy for LM to dance around and sound PC but he had had enough of that and decided to end it and admit that the buck stopped with him. It's called leadership. Decision had to be made and he made the one that brought a good STUDENT athlete to LSU over a guy who may not stay eligible til the Spring of '10-don't know about y'all but I hope we're still playin' then if you know what I mean!! It's done, our HC made the call and is standing by it, I like it alot for the long term health of the program.

i'm sure in 3 pages it has been said, and i didn't read them, BUT IMO...i don't like how this went down either.
damage a bridge with bastrop to cater to a kids father who is scared from competition from a former teammate and supposed friend
i don't like it a whole lot
