Obviously a very disappointing day, but a little perspective is also needed

Well to say I am not disappointed in today's news with Surtain and Goodrich would be a lie obviously. I am but I think you have to look at both those decisions with a little perspective. What is the common denominator in both those signing day losses? They went to schools that currently vie for conference and national titles.

And whether anyone likes this or understands this or not, kids of that caliber like winning titles. They know they are good and want to win titles and those two programs, at this time, gives them a better chance at attaining those goals. It sucks but those are the facts and as much as we don't want to admit it, those are the facts.

Until LSU starts winning titles again we are going to lose out on those types of players that aren't bound by borders. The Surtain announcement really hurts because of his connections to LSU and Louisiana but if we want to keep this from happening we need to win more it is truly that plain and simple.

Coach O might be a fantastic recruiter but, his success is going to be measured in the W & L columns "that is a whole different subject" with those types of recruits. If we start winning titles we won't lose those battles like we have been doing, but until we start winning those titles that those elite players want to win, we are going to continue to lose those types of recruiting battles.

To put it bluntly, today's recruiting news SUCKS!!! And you can continue to get used to this kind of news, regarding these types of players, until we start winning titles again it is literally that simple. Surtain unfortunately hit the nail on the head when he said why he chose Bama "They win Championships."

So there it is Coach O for you loud and clear there is your gauntlet, you want to have the best recruiting classes start winning championships!!!

Agreed that winning championships helps.

But at the same time, we need more Alphas like Devin White who, when Nick tells him "we'll just have to beat you if you go to LSU", aren't afraid to tell him F-you.

LSU is in perfect shape to contend for Citrus Bowls. Thats the goal, after all. LSU isn’t trying for NCs.

apparently not because using and in-state kid that does have "borders" to recruiting - he stayed in state - isn't the right example in this case.

Neither Surtain or Goodrich stayed in state.

Again, I get it. First, I think you mean "borders." so here's a for you.

Second, I'm not limiting the discussion to just Goodrich and Surtain. If you were, then my bad. I'm talking about the fact that last year, Moses and Allen both left the state and cited "ability to play for a championship" as their primary reason for going to 'Bama.

What I'm saying is that in order to get over this hump, we need kids (whether from Louisiana or anywhere else) who don't necessarily want to just jump onto an already established champion, but would instead prefer to help a very good program become great. We need to find those kids. Devin White made it clear that he is one of those by spurning Saban. Hopefully there are a bunch in '19.

Continue to use White is counter to what my argument is and we are arguing different points. You want kids that want to are loyal and have an incentive to go to LSU. Staying in-state was a huge deal for White, it wasn't for Surtain, Goodrich, Moses or Allen. Hell Moses even went out of state for his senior year in high school.

In order for us to get those players we need to win more titles, nothing but that is going to get those players. Yes I agree with you we need more Devin Whites but those don't grow outside of our state.

Next year in recruiting is going to decide O's fate and O better hope he has a lot of recruits in Louisiana that have the same thoughts as Devin White's in next year class or 2019 will be O's last year. He won't make a 4th if his recruiting class isn't in the top 10.

I didn't realize Alabama had 3 other CB's in the class

Damn, so dude went in with 2 other top 100 CB's and EJ from Louisiana and we couldn't even get on 1?

Not to add they also got Savion, so 5 total in 1 class.

Damn, let that sink in for a moment

Fair enough and for the record, I basically agree with your post and upvoted you.

Somehow, we need to figure out a way to win and win now in order to get more elite players. At the risk of stating the obvious, the real challenge is we need to figure out how to beat 2 programs in 2018 that likely have better players and coaches than we do in Bama and Georgia. Will not be easy.

I think you left out beating Alabama starting with this season in TS. Stop playing like you're afraid of these people and kick their asses, I mean really kick their asses as in a blow out. You have to start sending statements, and right now every time LSU lines up to play these people there is a psychological ploy at play here with these players feeling as if they cannot beat these people, and if you are thinking like that then the game is already lost. LSU's OLines have been manhandled by Alabama every time since the 2012 championship game. Saban knows they want to run, and he just tells his front 7 to destroy them at the scrimmage, and LSU hasn't done shite to adjust to that yet, just ridiculous.

So, I hope that Ensminger is serious about running a RPO offense or spread or whatever, and fricking spread these people out and start passing the ball all over the damn place like he claims he will this upcoming season. You have to get these people off balance defensively and have them feeling uncomfortable with whatever LSU is running offensively. Right now, they have been way to comfortable on defense with what LSU does on offense, and that frankly just sucks arse to me. You run the ball on them when they least expect it, but right now you have to get them off track with quick passing whether it's quick slants by the WR's or simple side passes to them at the scrimmage so they can run down field for some fast yards, passes to RB's out of the backfield, no huddle snaps, and just going over top constantly on them down field.

LSU has big, strong physical WR's that can run and Sullivan should make them a lot better this year. It's time to stop playing with these people and take them the hell out, right now they feel that they own LSU, and Saban tells that shite to LA recruits and other recruits he's after like Surtain using that shite to his advantage. Can you blame him?? I mean even people on here keep saying crap like we can't beat them, and now they have Tua, we're doomed. I mean that's the kind of mind set that they want you to have, and it's sad because you never go into games thinking the other team can't be beat, anybody can get beat. LSU has tremendous athletes that can play with anyone, this class here got a lot of solid players that filled both sides of the lines with depth. They may not have gotten Surtain, but they always have great athletes and players to compete with.

I know it is all cool!!!

I think everyone is on the same page here we are all pissed off because we aren't winning enough on the field to keep a competitive edge in recruiting. Recruiting is the life's blood of this sport and anyone who tries to deny that "Star rankings matter" needs to look at the plain simple fact. Bama past 10 recruiting classes have never finished worse than 3rd!

If we don't start winning these recruiting battles LSU will continue to be mediocre-ish. And the sleeping giant in the West is A&M whether anyone likes it or not. And with Texas starting to recruit like they did this year, and you would have to bet going forward. Where do you think Jimbo is going to go when he loses out on some of that Texas talent? Louisiana I promise you that.

Coach O is in for the fight of his life over the next 2 years. And personally I don't think he makes it.

How the frick do we do that if our coaching can't win games? The whole idea behind this CEO model was that O was going to bring us elite classes. Now people are saying we need to win first before we get the elite classes?

Well why didn't we go out and get a coach that can win? Fricking bullshite.

you know what that tells me, they all wanted to take the easy road. if everybody is a 5 star recruit then your chances of winning go up. but you what else. somebody is not gonna play ! two are gonna transfer after sitting for two years.

I agree with you. Look at how State went after Alabama last year. I thought they were going to pull it off because they played fearless.
