I'm not going to get into this big clusterfrick of an argument, but I saw Mark Laird play twice this season. He was the best player I saw all season, at any high school level. Sometimes players just standout, and this kid stands out on offense and defense.
If I am not mistaken, they played teams from every class this season and he dominated them all. He is making a big mistake walking on at LSU. He should go to the highest level that offers him a scholarship, even if it is McNeese. Walk-ons don't get the opportunities and attention they need. A school that gives him a scholarship will be committed to his development.
I have no connection to his school or to him, but the guy is a stud.

I never disagreed with him not being good, but when it was said that he was better than any wr we had, that was full retard at its finest. Clearly you guys did not see Landry in HighSchool.
Regardless of stats, that kid was the best pure wr in the state since his sophomore year.

I wonder if he goes to other camps or not. Miss State and TCU have been after a lot of Monroe kids lately. I wonder if he's ever sent film or attended camps at another school.
If he's half as good as everyone is saying, it's hard to beleive that not even a Sun Belt or CUSA school has offered. Although he hasn't even played his senior year of ball yet, so there is still plenty of time.

I think definitive superlative statements are always stupid.
I'm not saying LSU made a mistake by not signing him. He's a white wide receiver playing at a small school. It's somewhat of a gamble, and LSU doesn't really have to take gambles. Laird is the kind of guy that could really excel at a place like La. Tech.

remember that LSU thought Raph Rhymes wasn't good enough out of high school either.
What?

Can't speak on Laird besides from what I've heard but as for Landry being the best wr in the state, while I believe he was, many believe D'haquille Williams was the best wr in the state their Sr year. Just saying it's subjective and bias can get in the way on either side. Same with the Hilliard/Hill argument. Some liked Hilliard and some liked Hill. A select few even liked Magee more than both. It's in the eye of the beholder so to speak. The Laird guys aren't wrong in their minds and that's okay. Not the 1st guys I've seen speak very highly of Laird.
Using Edwards as a basis for an argument hurts more than it helps. What has he done since being at LSU?

I think Laird was a senior this past season.

if he's as good as this, how did he not receive more offers? something doesn't add up. Kids fall through the cracks every year, but they're usually picked up by smaller schools. If he walks on and is this good, he'll have his shot. The WR spot ain't exactly proven right now

From what I understand, he could have gone to smaller schools but was set on going to LSU as a walk-on.

Haven't seen the kid play but is he in any way comparable to Jared Foster from Barbe?
JF was a stud in 5A and got a full-ride to McNeese St. and yet he decided to walk on at LSU.
Just trying to get a comparison.

I just read an article where he was quoted as saying last summer that he had invites to LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, and A&M.
However none of them offered. I am not doubting his athleticism, but if all these schools, including La Tech and ULM didn't offer, something has to be there.
I hope he shows up on the Baseball team, cause I feel that he can get lost on the Football team.

Wrong Edwards. Tyler went to 5A Ouachita. Eric went to OCS.

Rhymes walked on as a freshman and was cut. He went to LSUE, won JUCO National Player of the Year, and then LSU offered.

Yeah, so he wasn't good enough coming out of H.S.
It's not like he went to Florida out of H.S., blossomed, then came back.

He is coming to LSUand will walk on to the baseball team if one of the recruits gets drafted, which is most likely. He is good for 1a and very fluid but he doesn't run a legit 4.4 and is to small for wr or safety at LSU
Oh and his girlfriends goes to LSU

I don't understand what you're saying. LSU didn't think Rhymes was good enough. Giving him a scholarship later shows they were wrong. Coaches aren't infallible. Just because LSU didn't offer Laird doesn't mean he won't make the team. He's a great student. Maybe PM wants him, but didn't want to use limited scholarships when he can qualify academically for a scholarship.

Laird is a really good player. Not a 5 star stud but a guy that can play special teams and be a very reliable backup WR if called upon. Good grades, works hard, and loves LSU enough to walk on and try to earn a spot. I'll be rooting for him but I will not call him a lock to be a stud.

Yeah, I know, but they gave him a chance out of H.S. HE failed to impress.

Or it shows that he worked on his game more and took the opportunity more seriously...

And I'm not saying that he won't make the team.
My point was that Rhymes was given his shot....and he missed.
Luckily, for him, he was given a second shot...which he has connected on.
My only point here involves Rhymes, not Laird.
That said, you better be a fricking stud in class A if you plan on getting a full ride to the likes of LSU in baseball and football.
