Why does Barbe produce so many baseball prospects?

It's the only place to go in Lake Charles, and right now they're lucky because the class of '14 is the class that went to the LLWS and that entire team went to Barbe. Full of studs.

I can see there being 6-8 Barbe players on LSU's roster by the 2014 season.

One of them plays lf and the other one is the dh. If there were 2 dh positions they would probably both dh. Good kids though with good attitudes from what I hear.

I'll try to bump it and if nothing happens I'll just start another one and see what happens.

Outstanding youth baseball programs in Lake Charles.

I wouldn't go that far. They are outstanding for Lake Charles but overall they are average at best.

New baseball commitsBeau and Bryce Jordan from barbe have committed to play baseball at LSU, they will be jrs this year.

Thats impossible. It was on this board a year ago that we were locked out of Barbe because of PM and that our program would all but fold because of that.

??? LC has a long history of good youth baseball. A bunch of trips to Williamsport and all that. And Barbe has been a top 25 prep program nationally several times as a result -- it's not that big of a market to have all these top 25 teams even if they are cherry picking.

I mean, Houston (as an example) may produce far more players, but per capita, LC's youth system churns out more than its fair share.

That being said, like most places they've gotten away from the traditional leagues and they've gone more year-around select, which is problematic to me. It's less efficient because it's more exclusive. Not many can afford to do it and better athletes get eliminated at earlier ages.

I don't like it when I see this.

And you'll note in that little gap between last year's state title and Barbe's last state title, St. Louis won a 4A state championship.

I'd argue that, pound for pound, LC probably has the best baseball in the state, with Lafayette being right there with it. And to me, what made Lafayette improve was keeping up with LC in that 5A district. In the mid-90s, two of the top three in that district were always Barbe and either Sulphur or LaGrange. The Lafayette schools adjusted to compete better with their rivals to the west and, as a result, it became the best district in the state by far.
