I honestly believe les has left a huge hole in the defense with only signing 1 lb this class. We need talent here and we don't have much filling the empty holes left by sheppard. This scares the hell out of me playing these spread teams (oregon, auburn,WV) with slow LB's that can't keep up with the backs out of the backfield. Then its catch 22 when we play the power teams (alabama, Miss st) because we have 6 ft 210 guys going against 6ft6 320 linemen that get run over and never get to the back. I believe this class is strong but LB will be a position that may cost us a few games this upcoming year. I don't believe that les has some super reshirted LBer ready to go this year either because if they were any good they would have played the past year and we wouldn't have to be converting another db to Lb. Just hope our Qb issues have been solved because we gonna need to score some points this year!

I think the talent level and depth are that at LB already. I trust Chief with the guys we already have. All the help we will need is on the way in the next class with a banner stock in state next year. With the limited number of spots this year which commits would you give up for which viable prospects? IMO the only one we really wanted was CJ and we weren't in that race until recently. Maybe Voldemort will be our surprise.

Minter is slow?

News to me.

Pretty sure Baker has decent speed, and I see Hatcher making the move. We know he can run, and just ask Claiborne if you have any doubts on if he can hit.

FWIW... Take a good look at the 2012 LA class. It's loaded to the brim with LB's.

If we're depending on a true freshman to come in and save the day, we're screwed whether we get him or not.

Barrow was lights out on ST this year. If Baker can make the transition with out too much trouble, Barrow can.

Barrow, Minter, Muncie, Jones, Baker, Francois, Johns and Randle give us options.

I would love another, and definitely would have loved to see a rockstar commit like Johnson...but we have enough bodies that surely someone could step up.

I would like to see if Theriot could play the middle.

we said this before 09 and before this year. That group has been solid since chavis has been here. The best? no, but solid. Im not worried.

Hahaha now that i think about it. people didnt think shepp was going to be bale to step up, and now he is the most important player we lost.

So stop worrying. Have faith in the coaches.

This is what I want to see.

Folks may give him crap, but when he hits someone he rarely moves backwards. Did he blow a couple of plays, sure, but hell who has not.

Put 15 pounds on him and see if he can handle the middle. He has a unique way of using leverage that most guys dont possess.

For some mysterious damn reason we very rarely get decent LB recruits. We always get great DB's, corners and great DLinemen, but never 5 star linebackers. Its one of life's greatest mysteries, but somehow we manage to work with what we have and always have stout defenses.

move hatcher and add a very very talented randle and we will be fine. Shepp will be missed, but its time for younger players to step up. Shepp and riley were both good for us. They were young players once also.

See this thread is exactly one of the things about recruniks I despise.

Every kid that's 5 star doesn't equal better or more talent than what we have. This kills me because we swear up and down how much talent a kid has when he com mitts with stars by his name give him a jersey and a year or two of experience in the system then you are ready to throw them away for the next up and coming 5 star kid.

Don't get me wrong I wanted CJ as much as the next man but damn we have studs. when minter committed everyone was yelling from the roof tops about how talented he is and how he deserved a better ranking. Barrow was given a lot of love. People reffered to tahj jones as a beast .

If you ain't been at practice everyday like memphisplaya and a few others please quit spreading this venom. If we needed someone Les would have gotten it. They feel good about what we have. Truth be told some off you would have thrown K Shepard away years ago with thus line of thinking.

Give me a hard working smart three star Junior and most (not all) of the time he is better than the five star frosh anyway.

there is a reason having a young team is seen as a weakness.

When weights are taken on Barrow and Jones, I think alot of folks change their tune in the Fall.

Lucky for us we have Chief. Next year we should fill our holes at LB. Luckily for us, we have a blue chip LB instate next year that is already committed. Not to mention 2-3 more very solid LBs in LA, which is rare.

I'm more worried about the inside of our defense next year. Both DTs and MLB is going to be a huge hole.

We're currently set to have 9 scholarship linebackers on the roster next season and only two of them will be seniors. That also doesn't include any position switches, and you'll definitely see at least one of those (according to Miles).

The chances of getting anyone in this class to fill his role as a freshman was slim and none.

See above.

And you could've said the exact same thing about Sheppard after his sophomore season and he had been in the program for three years. But now you're talking about how tough it will be to replace him.

It probably has just as much, if not more, to do with the player likely seeing diminished playing time in the secondary than a depth issue at linebacker.

Agree 100%. Its so funny how some forget those "studs" from last year or the year previous.

I don't agree with this. We are plenty deep and the coaches will get the talent ready. Listen, DT has Brockers, Ego, Davenport, Freak, Downs, Logan, Lavar. Lavar and Ego are hybrid DT/DE. We will be 6 deep at DT. not the issue. MLB has Minter, Baker, Hatcher maybe, Maclin maybe. I think Minter will be ready next year. He had 17 tackles in last years spring game.

Damn thats good. I think if Chavis can teach him everything and if he is a smart guy he will be a special player. The thing thats concerning me most about him is the mental aspect.

Which wouldn't be solved if CJ were to commit to LSU. Minter>CJ in that department based on the coaching/experience he's already received.
